  1. With regards to the font, that's just blurry because I shrunk the image. The actual quality software won't have that.

Aside from the smiley dispute of 2014, I think we've made tremendous progress on the UI and will continue to do so.

Of course, the engine will continue to get stronger :).

  2. Hi guys, Malwarebytes.org was not compromised, only the one server that is running this forum. Invision is known for having vulnerabilities and gets exploited all the time, unfortunately we fell victim to that. The e-mails are still going out, should be done in a few hours. Purging user passwords was precautionary and since we just moved away from our servers and went to hosting the board with Invision, we used it as an opportunity.

Let me know if you have any questions or you can e-mail me :).

  3. Hello everybody!

In response to a bit of user unhappiness around the aggressive color scheme of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 (too many colors!), I'm here to give you a preview of what we're changing it to in version 2.1. We took feedback from our forums, reddit, and various other deep dark hallways of the Internet and put together a mock up that we then did usability testing on. As you can see, we removed all of the aggressive banners and per your suggestion we removed the marketing module from the dashboard.

I'm only showing you the dashboard, but we overhauled the entire scan flow to be simpler as well. Please note that this UI will continue to evolve over the next few versions as we get to everything that's been requested. Be gentle on us, we're working as fast as we can! :)

p.s. we know the smileys may look a bit cartoonish, but it resonated well with a lot of the early users we tried it on. It's a wonky idea, but that's just who we are :D. We're tired of boring checkmarks!

Let us know what you think, we hope to have this released around January.

  4. Thanks for your idea, but the Malwarebytes team is already actively in the process of redesigning the UI a bit. We've asked a few forum members and other users to help us and we should have something to show soon. If you have any ideas, feel free to message them to me and we'll see if we can get them in.

  5. Hey everyone, just wanted to make a comment.

With over 25 million users that use the product each month, we obviously can't make everyone happy, but we're trying! We realize we took some steps back in terms of user-friendliness with 2.0, but we also made major leaps forward. The last few months have been spent doing nothing but improving the product we've built; there is still progress to be made!

2.0.2 was released to address most of the crash issues and bugs users have been experiencing. The next version will focus on some UI tweaks and additional bug reports.

If you have concrete ideas of how to improve the products, please post them here and we'll happily consider them if they make sense. If you have issues with the product, please let me know here and we'll help debug them.

  6. I've modified the original post, but I'll add it here as well --

In about 2-3 weeks we're going to release yet another patch that will fix about ~30 bugs that have been reported or we've discovered. We wanted to make sure the UI issues were addressed first since we had some really great feedback from everyone.

  7. Hello everyone! I want to personally thank you all for the wonderful feedback we've received after the launch of 2.0 last Monday. We've heard you loud and clear regarding the UI and have been working as quickly as possible to fix some of the more obvious issues.

    Here's what we've done --

You said: the notifications are too big
We've changed the notification size to be significantly smaller.

You said: there are too many notifications
If the UI is in focus, you will no longer be getting tray notifications except for malware detections.

You said: installing the product for the first time and getting multiple red notifications scares users
We agree! On first launch, the database will be auto-updated and users will no longer be bombarded by red notifications, this was never our intent!

You said: the dashboard screaming red aggressive colors all of the time is annoying and not helpful and can even scare users
We've changed the color of most of the notifications from red to orange and changed both red and orange to look less aggressive.

You can read the full change log here or in the installer as we've fixed some minor issues as well.

To get the update, please download it from our website, or if you're already running 2.0, just check for updates. Starting Monday, we will start slowly migrating 1.75 users to 2.0; this is currently disabled. If you do not wish to participate, please make sure you've disabled the program updates on the Update Settings tab in 1.75.

I realize this is not the entire scope of changes you expect. We have a ton of work to do beyond this, but we wanted to respond quickly to change what some users have termed "rogue behavior."

I would greatly appreciate your comments. I also want to let you know that we're working on allow users to disable the new product module we put on the dashboard, rework the entire notification system, and more.

NOTE: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0.2.1012 was released today - 05/20/2014. The full changelog can be viewed here

  8. Just for everyone's information, here's what we are trying to ship out the door in less than a week --

    1. change all the aggressive red colors to a calmer red, change all the aggressive orange colors to a calmer orange

    2. switch more notifications from red to orange leaving only protection off and malware detections as red, database notifications should be orange

    3. on first launch ever after install, you shouldn't be getting a database out of date notification, that will scare most users, we'll fix this

    4. if the UI is in focus, you shouldn't be getting additional tray notifications, only if the UI isn't open, we'll fix this

    5. change notification size to be a bit smaller by reducing the color portion of it for now

  9. I am overjoyed to announce the launch of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0. I know you've been waiting a very long time for this and so have we!

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 ships with a completely redesigned user interface to make the product easier to use, more informative, and to provide quicker access to key functionality. We have also built in and improved our Anti-Rootkit and Chameleon self-protection technologies, which have been in beta for the past year. Additionally, we've rewritten Malicious Website Blocking and improved native x64 support. Most importantly, our detection and removal engine was significantly improved under the hood and kicks even more malware butt! Finally, we’ve renamed to the Pro version to Premium to avoid confusion for home users. This is the biggest rewrite we have ever undertaken, and we hope you’re thrilled with the result.

With the launch of 2.0, we'll also be moving to a subscription licensing model, $24.95 per year. As more and more people have come to rely on us for malware protection and cleanup, our costs in bandwidth, hosting fees, infrastructure, salaries of our researchers, QA department, and more have grown immensely. Though our company is about more than just making money, we are a company and we do have to make money to pay our staff to continue doing what they love, which is fighting malware. The subscription model will help us to be sustainable for the future while staying true to our roots that we will always make malware cleanup free for everyone.

We will continue to honor existing lifetime licenses, meaning any users that already have a lifetime license for 1.x will continue to have a lifetime license for 2.0. We'll also be offering a few thousand more lifetime licenses at some point soon as a special offer, so keep an eye out! On top of all of that, new subscription licenses will be valid for 3 PCs, not just 1.

We could have gone other routes to make our business more financially sustainable, like adding toolbars or advertisements like many other security products have, but that's not the company we are. We believe that products should be nag-free and cleanup shouldn't cost our users a dime, and we're going to stay true to that. Scanning for and removing malware will be free in this new version and beyond! You didn't pay to get infected, you shouldn't pay to clean it up!

With all that said, you can download 2.0 here!
