The decision was made by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which Apple had appealed to after their initial trademark application had been denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The decision was based largely on the fact that the term "Multi-Touch" has become a generic term to describe how users interact with touchscreen devices in general.Apple had submitted their original trademark application on January 9th, 2007.(source) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) invented the GUI, pull-down menus and the mouse.. And then Apple tried to patent them too..
