On the 26th of September, MacRumors reported that Apple had been denied their application to trademark the name "Multi-Touch". The decision was made by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which Apple had appealed to after their initial trademark application had been denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The decision was based largely on the fact that the term "Multi-Touch" has become a generic term to describe how users interact with touchscreen devices in general.

Apple had submitted their original trademark application on January 9th, 2007.
