Will quick format get rid of viruses?

Recommended Posts

Ok so i turned off autorun on my pc, and i put in my external hard drive, 500GB, and when i try to do a normal format to ntfs it doesnt work, just takes damn ages (probs looking for bad boot sectors on hdd), but quick format does the job quickly and easily, if i suspect, dont know if there is or not, but if i suspect thre are viruses in that hard drive, is quick format enough?

Or is it really reccomended to do a full format?
