Update error

Recommended Posts

I am getting the error:

Program Error Updating (11001, 0, Host not found) no such host is known.

I have tried:

1.) uninstalling/reinstalling MBAM

2.) trying the MBAM-clean.exe trick

3.) scanning with: Spybot Search and Destroy, Avast, CCleaner, Hitman Pro 3.5.

4.) tried disabling windows firewall for updating MBAM

5.) tried a "ping data-cdn.mbamupdates.com" says Ping request could not find host data-cdn.mbamupdates.com Please check the name and try again.

'm using Windows XP Home edition. I am not running a separate firewall. I am running Avast, but I get the same message even when I have Avast disabled.

I've attached Ark and Attach as per directions.

Hi,

1. Very important: First disconnect your computers from the Internet.

2. Router Reset: Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into the small hole labeled Reset located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 30 seconds).

3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your Internet connection on each computer connected:

  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.
  • Select the General tab.
  • Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    • Under General tab:
      • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically".
      • Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

[*]Click OK twice to save the settings.

[*]Reboot if you had to change any setting.

4. Flush the DNS cache:

  • Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
  • Click on Run
  • In the command window copy/paste the following:
    ipconfig /flushdns

  • Then hit enter.
  • Exit the command window.

5. Reconnect: Once you have followed all the above steps you can reconnect your computer to the internet.

Yes, I did all the things you said and it worked. I had to get my internet provider to also reset my router once I worked through all the steps. He said there was two DNS addresses from the same device showing up, but he wasn't sure why.

Anyway, after all that I was able to update Malwarebytes and run a quick scan. It came back negative, which surprised me. I'm going to run a full scan now.

Thanks for your help.
