rules.ref and I can't update

Hello,

When I try to update malware I used to get an odd error. I say I used to get it becase I did a google search and a thread on this forum suggested that I remove the rule.ref file. I did (although getting access to the malware folder was difficult, it was all locked up).

Now I get the following errors, it says a database could not be found and asks me if i want to download a new one. i click yes and get

mbam_error_updating (12007, 0, winhttpsendrequest)

followed by

mbam_error_missing_file (2, 0, rules.ref)

yo yo yo. it was just being in safe mode without networking.
