MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_ DATABASE(0,5) -- Recurring

Recommended Posts

Howdy Doody Everyone.

I've been having problems with updating, getting message: MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE(0,5). The real problem is it keeps recurring. So I followed the instructions previously posted (many times); remove program, restart, use the Mbam Cleaner, restart, disable my antivirus (Norton), and reload program. Unfortunately, the next time there is an update, it comes back. I've been using MB for about six months now without any issues. And I am taking version 1.46 off Cnet as suggested.

Help please!

you should really consider updating your norton to the latest version.... that old version of yours is not cut out for some of the latest threats out there.

I'm aware of that and considering it.

Does anyone else have any suggestions to get this thing working again?

Does your Norton have that add-on for Parental Controls and Privacy settings, if it does, that is a know issue/conflict with MBAM. Try to disable that feature (especially if you don't use it). Also enter the below exceptions to your AV.

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products

Please post back and let us know how it went.

Ok please report back with your findings

Thanks again Firefox. I just wanted to follow up.

Rather then deal with the (potential) problem, I decided to eliminate it. I got rid of Norton. I put in Avast. It's running with AVG and everything is fixed and, in the immortal words of Flo and Eddie, "happy together".

All of this derived out of Nortons definition file from 05-11-10. It broke 2002 and 2003, for everyone. Shut off auto-protect among a lot other issues. And we are not getting this fixed.

I had enough of the Symantec. I know I'm not alone regarding those sentiments. It feels real good to get that monkey off my back! We're moving on.

Glad to hear its all working great now....

Could be a typo on your part but you mentioned this below:

I got rid of Norton. I put in Avast. It's running with AVG

Are you runing Avast or AVG or both? I hope it is only one Antivirus, having more than one running actively will cause problems.

I get that a lot. I have always run two anti-virus programs at the same time for almost ten years without any problems.

It was Norton and AVG. Now it's Avast and AVG. It's AVG free, but I believe it's still considered real time protection just like Avast. Then every week I run scans: Spybot, Malwarbytes, AVG and Avast. Like I said, this roster has been good so far. Everone is playing nice!
