Disabled.SecurityCenter

Recommended Posts

I got this notice of "malicious software" on my initial quick scan with MB:

Vendor: Disabled.SecurityCenter

Category: Registry Data

Item: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify

Other: Bad: 1 Good: 0

Action: No Action

There was also an identical item, except it said FirewallDisableNotify instead of AntiVirusDisableNotify.

I am thinking this is just a result of running Avast AV and COMODO firewall -- they disable the XP versions (at least the firewall gets disabled; AV...?)

Can anyone tell me if I am correct, or if this is actually a threat? Should I remove these?

I couldn't find a clear answer on the net, but surely a lot of people are running 3rd party firewalls, etc, and this must be a common question.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

those two entities are there like you said, probably cause your other security firewall has disabled them.

These should be safe to ignore. If you already quarantined them, that's OK too.

I run a third party firewall (Panda w/firewall enabled) and never have I seen these entries in my registry. And every machine that I have cleaned for customers that have had these entries were cause by some form of malware. It didn't matter what av/spyware protection they had. Maybe I am wrong here, tell me if I am, but I see these entries as threats.

Not in all cases is it a threat, like I said it depends if your other security software has disabled these due to the security software you have is already protecting those items.

If you want to make sure your system is fully clean you could always follow these instructions:

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Thank you :welcome:

Thanks, everyone.

I removed the two items and everything seems to be working fine. A new scan is clean. Windows Security center still reads the same: Firewall and AV are "on", and my 3rd party programs are listed. Windows Firewall remains off, as it should be.
