I need some help determining if my pc is infected. I have a roadrunner cable connection. Last Thursday the internet stopped working and after contacting roadrunner was told that they had shut off the modem because my IP was reported as sending out lots of spam. Talking with roadrunner they said it was a new virus that was hard to detect and eliminate.

The roadrunner modem connects to a netgear wireless router then to the Acer PC. The wireless router is secure plus we live out in the country so there are no other users around. The Acer PC was the only computer on for the past 7 days.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan

  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the esetOnline.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on esetSmartInstall.png to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click on the esetSmartInstallDesktopIcon.png icon on your Desktop.

    [*]Check esetAcceptTerms.png

    [*]Click the esetStart.png button.

[*]Accept any security warnings from your browser.

    [*]Check esetScanArchives.png

    [*]Push the Start button.

[*]ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.

[*]When the scan completes, push esetListThreats.png

[*]Push esetExport.png, and save the file to your Desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

    [*]Push the esetBack.png button.

    [*]Push esetFinish.png

Ran eset in both regurlar and safe mode the checker returned no threats found

Also ran Avira's rescure cd which boots into Unix. It did not find any threats.

Any other suggestions

Rick
