icon gone

Recommended Posts

Hi--

I just bought Anti-malware and installed / registered it. I restarted my PC.

The very next thing that happened was, my daught went to www.facebiik.com instead of correctly typing it with oo's.

Anyway, it poped up a window with "click OK to collect your free IPhone" which was obviously that very virus thing I bought Malwarebytes to prevent from coming up.

I do have it fully running, with everything coming on at start up.

When that windows came up, we just clicked "start - restart".

Then, when The PC restarted (it's windows 7 home pro), the icon for the malewarebyte program on the desktop was gone.

The start-programs-malwarebytes, the malwarebytes exe in that program group it too has it's icon gone.

the icon is just the standard short cut to a non-existant program.

BUT 2x clicking the icon on the desktop launches the program.

questions:

1) what happened to the icon and how do i get it back?

2) i thought that this program intercepted those malicious popups to download the very virus i bought 3 copies of malware to protect from...is that not the case? does this program only try and help after you're infected and not catch them at the download/install phase?

thanks

kelly

Welcome Avert - Pleade follow these directions and all should be OK -

To Fully Remove and Reinstall a Fresh New Copy of Malwarebytes - Read Carefully

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
  • Click on Programs and Features
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important !
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here

It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so, very important

After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version only

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now reset any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications.

You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it.

Run a Quick Manual Scan and remove any infections found - You should be back to normal -

Post back if you still have any problems -

Thank You - :)
