Can't Update Malwarebytes - IE8 doesn't work!?!?

I got a virus/malware on my computer somehow - i think I've got it mostly clean (i hope anyway). I can get malwarebytes to load, but not update, and I can't get ie8 to load at all. I can get Firefox to load okay. I want to be able to get malwarebytes updating again and ie8 running. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!
