[ RESOLVED ] Have You Stopped Updating Lifetime Licenses

Recommended Posts

My definitions update quit 3 days ago.  When I log in to my account, it show 0/1 device activated but it cannot activate my device (a Windows 11 computer) that worked fine until 3 days ago.  I realize products move on but I purchased this product as a lifetime product and it should be updated perpetually as it was advertised back then.  If the installed product can't be updated, then the latest product that can be updated should be provided without cost without an expiration date.  There surely isn't that many lifetime product users still left...

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

It shows as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100; the updates worked until this Wednesday.  It acts like it is updating and shows I have the latest ones, but the out of sate message keeps popping up.

That version has gone end of life.

The lifetime license is still valid for the 2 current versions of Malwarebytes and all future versions.

How do I proceed to get the latest version of the equivalent product and still not lose my lifetime license?  Can you point me to a link or how to get?

Uninstall what you have.

Is your license in the old ID and Key format?

Yes it is.  It came on a CD with an ID/Key card.

After you uninstall the old version,

You would need to install version 4 first and then activate it if you have an original older license key with an ID

Then install version 5 over the top if you wish to have the most current version.

You have been an enormous help.  I didn't even know how to proceed and couldn't find the info on the website.  Folks like you are very important to the average user of a product.  Thanks again and have a good day!

Thanks.

I am going to make the following suggestion so Malwarebytes and Windows security(Defender) can work alongside each other to protect you.

Please make the following change in Malwarebytes if you're using the Premium or Trial version

  • Please open Malwarebytes. Click on the small gear icon to open the Settings and go to the Security, or General in V5 tab.
  • Then turn off "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center"
  • Restart the computer

It is highly unlikely that you need to setup exclusions for Windows Defender, however if you experience any issues, please see the following article and setup exclusions
between Malwarebytes and Windows Defender

Hi Porthos (Viva Enterprise);

I guess I am having the same problem, but Version 4 (from your link) is not letting me authorize either.  My license key is four 4-character alpha-numerics, and I have another code that came in the email (bought direct from MB MANY years ago) that is two 5 character alpha-numerics.  The serial is not accepted at all- I get "Unable to register license key".  This has been working on my old PC but I just built a new one.  Unfortunately I de-authorized my old machine before trying it on the new one, and now my query to MB support is auto-rejected because I "am not a subscriber".  I would appreciate any other suggestions!

This is a good thing.

The old keys were. Use capitals and the dashes.

ID xxxxx-xxxxx

Key xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

Porthos-  THANK YOU for indulging a knot-head.  I kept assuming that when I clicked the "I have a license ID" that the serial stayed in the first field, and the ID was the added, second field. Argh!  In my (weak) defense, new 4K monitor, tiny text.....  Anyway- All good now thanks to you!

Do you still have access to that email account?

My mistake.  I found the invoice in my email archive (plug for MailStore Home - free!) and I bought it from Newegg in May 2011.  They actually shipped it to me, so there must have been a disk.  I do still have access to the email I used then, but an attempt to use "forgot pw" at MB just came back with an "email not registered" message.  Anyhoo-  I should be good until the next time I upgrade hardware.  Thanks again!
