Scheduled Scan Settings Missed 3 Days

Recommended Posts

Good morning 🌞

MB has not behaved as expected with daily threat scans. It could be my configurations are wrong. Attached are screen shots which supposedly show a threat scan every morning at 8:30. I confess, I didn't wait for 8:30 today, but did a manual scan shortly before. I was nervous about the timing of a restart which might have interfered with it.

I am unclear about the Smart Scan setting, which may solve this.

Thank you for clarifying.  🌺

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Thank you @Porthos for looking over my logs and spotting the outdated version. I updated before I ran my scan this morning and posted. Nothing out of the ordinary resulted. I updated at 2:PM EST and now that version is installed.

I noticed this is in another topic, and that update version happened last week, on the 19th. It's confusing that my system did not receive it, despite having automatic updates enabled. I know things are often without explanation, and this might be one of them.

The company has program updates pushed through the normal updater (the one that checks for database updates) metered in such a way that it is throttled so not every user is offered the new build once it has been released, so it becomes a matter of probability and is somewhat random.  This means that you might be offered it early, or it might take a really long time before it is offered to you, it just all depends.  Basically a luck of the draw kind of deal.

Good morning @Porthos

Continuing problems with automatic updates, so I've started manually checking daily.

Wednesday: 11/1        update 4.6.5.293 version 1.0.76796  component 1.0.2181

Sunday: 11/5                update 4.6.6.294 version 1.0.76932 component 1.0.2189

Monday:  11/6               update 4.6.6.294 version 1.0.7690 component 1.0.2189

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Program and component updates are metered. This is normal

Does this luck apply to when it scans?

No.

what is up with the following settings.

Malwarebytes Application Settings
========================================
Start with Windows:             Disabled
Context Menu:                   Disabled

I am not sure and was not aware.

Edit: whether this is relevant of not, it's up to you. AdvancedSetup has configured my system in a way to bypass certain Microsoft Security settings which normally should have worked with MB, but for some reason did not. So every time I do a Security scan with Windows, I get notifications which are then "dismissed." This has been routine for 4 months.

What is not routine is MB automatic scan stopped working every day maybe in the second week of October. Before that, totally reliable.

Interesting. It did not hold that daily setting and has defaulted back to weekly. I have changed schedules to scan at IDLE time, and that's when it missed days on end. I wonder what might be the process for setting a particular time daily?  Certainly my system spends hours in idle time since I leave it on at least 12 hours a day.

OK, I will check that too. Thanks.

It occurred to me that during the last month or so, I had disabled MB to do something, can't remember now, and maybe it is simply my "user error" in resetting the way it normally worked without problems. At least that's a better scenario than anything else.
