Revoking "Allow in the Background" fully disables application

Recommended Posts

I'm using the free version of Malwarebytes (MB) on Mac. When I disable Allow in the Background in System Settings> General> Login Items> Allow in the Background, the application fails immediately.

As I understand, the free version of MB doesn't offer real-time protection, and I've deselected all options in Settings that might relate to real-time processes.

Is there a way to turn off the background access and still use the free version of MB?

Nope. The background components still need to be running, as they need the elevated privileges that being run in this manner gives them. Without those permissions, they can't do what they need to do. Scans would be very limited, and would not be able to remove all threats.

Without RTP, though, those processes are doing almost nothing until you actually interact with the app.
