False positive on strings1.exe

Recommended Posts

This is a small reverse engineering challenge, which I think was created by MalwareTech. All it does is open up a message with the an MD5 hash (the goal is to use static analysis). It does not appear to create/modify any files or registry keys when run in a sandbox.

Detection log: strings.exe detection.txt

File (zip, no password): strings1.zip

VT: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/c2c823a9e2d16051d5efff6e4c17f9930f58d1d52bf9bce2bcf7ce5fc2db3498 (not detected anymore oddly, probably just due to differences between my configuration & VT)
