Can't get vpn to work

Hi,

OK so in itself all is well - great vpn; high quality device apps and IPs - the problem starts whenever I try to use enable the VPN via desktop app in conjunction with an open VPN configuration that I have installed on my router to give network wide protection.

Whenever I activate the router's VPN to work on any of my devices, then the malware bytes privacy app simply does not connect. I know there's no "inherent" problem as I have another VPN subscription (which incidentally uses more or less the same IP ranges as Malwarebytes privacy) which works perfectly fine in conjunction with the router VPN connection, providing the perfect layered protection I wanted. 

So I wondered if there is a way around this. Would anyone happened to know what the issue might be? Is it possibly the VPN protocol being used by Malwarebytes which is the issue or a policy thing?
