Odd Occurrence.

Recommended Posts

A couple of days ago a notification appeared asking what I wanted to do, I wasn't there to witness this but my relatives who were using the pc at the time seem to think it was a notification like you might get if putting a CD or thumb drive (autorun/play type thing?) they clicked 'do nothing'

I wasn't unduly worried about this but having thought about it some, I figured I should get this looked at.

BTW. Malwarebytes identified and quarantined FRST as ransomeware so I took it out of quarantine  to run it - is this to be expected, if not, what to do please?

Thank you Kevinf80, that's a relief!

Would you have any thoughts on what may have caused this notification to pop up out of the blue?

Any ideas on FRST triggering a Ransom Agent Generic detection when the exe was run and anything I should do?

Cheers.....

Hiya WeeJinky,

I cannot really comment on the popup without seeing it. Regarding FRST, security applications often flag FRST as suspicious because of how it works when searching your system, I do have that mentioned in the instructions...

Quote

If your security alerts to FRST either, accept the alert or turn your security off to allow FRST to run. It is not malicious or infected in any way...

Right click on FRST here: C:\Users\Sinclair\Desktop\FRST64.exe and rename uninstall.exe when complete right click on uninstall.exe and select "Run as Administrator"

If you do not see the .exe appended that is because file extensions are hidden, in that case just rename FRST64 to uninstall

That action will remove FRST and all created files and folders...

Thank you again Kevinf80, I appreciate it, unfortunately my rellies didn't think or know how to take a screenshot of the notification, I'll put it down to a glitch and stop fretting over it now, you could close this thread and mark it solved.

I'll give the links you posted a look, I'm sure I'll find them useful.

Cheers......
