Cannot set exclusion, the app won't allow a legit install

Help! I'm trying to update a legitimate application (legacy.exe), and MB keeps quarantining it. Even with protection set to "OFF" the update exe is quarantined every time. I have no way to install or update the desired application, unless I suppose I completely uninstall MB and then reinstall... this is a rather painful method??

1.) Malwarebtes Anti-Ransomware Beta (MBARW Beta6 or Beta7), v0.9.15.416 or v0.9.16.484.

or

2.) Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) Free, Trial or Premium, v2.2.1.1043.
