[Shell_NotifyIcon]Failed to perform desired action. Error code 0

Recommended Posts

Hello Forum Members and Admins,

I get this message when I start the computer or use MWB from the Start menu.

"[shell_NotifyIcon]Failed to perform desired action. Error code 0"

Any advice? The scan seems to run fine.

See if this forum FAQ helps. You probably need to do a clean removal and reinstall the latest version

Thank you for your reply. I had seen that page and not found a match. Your suggestion to re-install seems good.

Your reply prompted the question whether Zone Alarm is messing with MWB. Before I give it max permissions, I would appreciate you advising me on the attached ZL settings. Extending permissions may be a quick fix whereas re-installing may not get at the cause of the problem.

In general does Error Code 0 mean that there is no error on record to describe the event? I recall turning on the Voxeo telephony platform with a similar message and everything worked fine.

Does this forum take donations? You know, it feels good from here to create a real acknowledgement.

Thanks so much for your time and expertise.

Zone Alarm SmartDefense needs to TRUST all the MBAM files listed in that FAQ.

The only one that needs to be trusted by the Firewall is the MBAM.EXE as it is the only one that should be calling out to the Internet. It need to be trusted for Access and Server but not for Send Mail.
