Unable to Access Update Server

Recommended Posts

I am unable to access the update server and have no real-time protection.  My log is attached.

I discovered this this morning, I do not know if it began yesterday.  I had been getting Java update notifications for awhile, but clicking on them produced no results, so I Googled a fix.  Java does state that it was updated yesterday.  That is the only odd thing that has happened.

Thank you!

Hello and :welcome: :

A couple of easy things to check:
>>First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.
>>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE (just the one reply, not the entire thread). Please post back if you need help with that.
>>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hi:

Again, problems that sound the same often are not.

In order for us to better assist you, it would help if you would please take a look at the advice in the reply just above yours.

The steps suggested there resolve similar issues for most users.

Please take your time to work through the steps.

Thanks,

P.S. Yes, your scan log is not "right".  But that doesn't tell us the cause. ;)

Date and time - check.

No threats.

Just trying to explain symptoms - not inferring that I have the same prob - sorry.

When I go looking for files to exlude in Viper, and I browse to the Malwarebytes folder, I do not see any .exe files.  .conf and .dll

I don't know if I have a "new build" - I have been using Viper and Malwarebytes for a long time.

Yes, please, explain to me how to exclude the files as I hope I am doing it wrong.

Hi:

Thanks for the updated info.

If you have been running MBAM 2.x and VIPRE for a while, then it's not likely that VIPRE is blocking MBAM.

So let's just do this, as it's likely the simplest way to resolve your issue - if step #1 doesn't resolve it, then please proceed to step #2 and post back with the requested logs: :)

  • Please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Thanks,

First off I couldn't open the program at all.  I followed the clean removal process and re-installed the program...it successfully scanned and detected quite a number of threats which I quarantined and removed.  I set up the auto update and auto scan but over a few days I didn't get any notifications.  I opened the program and tried to manually update but got these same results.   I tried another clean removal and re-install with no luck.  My PC is infected with something nasty and I can;'t seem to find a solution.

Hello and :welcome: , @CurtisArnold:

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum (and this topic was started by @WallowHollow). :(

So, as you mention that you are infected, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to take to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will guide you through the cleanup process.

Thanks,

P.S. Problems that sound "the same" most often are not. So, if you need more help in the future, please start your own new, separate topic. That will make it easier for us to assist you with individual help.  Thanks.
