guy3949 Posted May 15, 2007 ID:4477 Share Posted May 15, 2007 Anyone have any idea what this PSGuard is?
Root Admin RubbeR DuckY Posted May 16, 2007 Root Admin ID:4478 Share Posted May 16, 2007 It is an old old old rogue component. It used to be a rogue antispyware utility that was bundled with Smitfraud.
guy3949 Posted May 16, 2007 Author ID:4479 Share Posted May 16, 2007 I typed in the file path into my search and as far as i can tell it was installed before i bought my pc. Is it safe to disinfect it and if so will that delete it or just clean the file?
Root Admin RubbeR DuckY Posted May 16, 2007 Root Admin ID:4480 Share Posted May 16, 2007 It looks like a false positive. As you can see, it is detecting an HP file. That security program you are using is detecting it incorrectly.
guy3949 Posted May 16, 2007 Author ID:4486 Share Posted May 16, 2007 I am testing this program on my old xp computer. It dose not seem to give me the option to ignore it from future scans.

It dose not seem to give me the option to ignore it from future scans. It's not a good program. Your best move is to get if off your machine. Then run some good scans to be sure your not infected from it. Look at the Google hits for the program name http://www.google.com/search?q=psguard&...2006-17,GGGL:en
guy3949 Posted May 16, 2007 Author ID:4494 Share Posted May 16, 2007 From trying System Shield Internet Security for 2 days now i will will not buy it. Is there other ways that you can get infected with PSGuard? I do not think i have Smitfraud because Spybot Search&Destroy should have detected that. JeanInMontana Posted May 16, 2007 ID:4497 Share Posted May 16, 2007 When you use this type of crapware you are always in danger of being infected with something. They tend to clean up their act long enough that everyone backs off and then go back to their shady practices. In my opinion yes, you could very well have something else or a new undetected version of SmitFraud. Your way better off to stick with the tried and true apps.
