Malwarebyte scan caused a lot of problems, took out some Dll files, help please

REPOST

I just use this program to do a quick clean up on my computer every few weeks or so. Malwarebytes in the past has worked wonderfully and has saved me a few times. I'm not very knowledgable on computers, but I sometimes do searches for stuff that I'm unsure or have no knowledge about, but there's so much info out there so I do miss quite a bit.

Well, on the 15th, after 2 hour and a half scan on the older version, around 75 PUP.s were found, a lot from SPIGOT. I had to research to find out what PUP.s were. I accidentally clicked on something and I think it didn't delete it so I redid a fast scan and got 35 or so. Next day, I got version 2.0 which is what I'm using now with trial.

So far I've encountered numerous computer crashes and a few BSOD. My graphics card had crashed a few times and then it would say even though it did, it recovered itself, sometimes doing this multiple times and repeats when I restart computer. My computer would freeze, turn black, turn back on, sometimes for like 4 to 6 times, sometimes resulting in BSOD (blue screen of death). Did a sfc /scannow on the cmd and says everything seems to be intact. Can't pop the OS cd in at the moment because my internal dvd/cd drive in it hasn't been working (my fault, old issue), was planning to do a system repair.

I also remember on the 15th or so, that Windows 7 had some updates during shutdown. Not sure if that is it.

Anyhow, this is what I've done so far without any real results:

1. Updated graphics card driver, clean install. Still same issues. Sometimes right after windows start, sometimes after using Chrome or Firefox Browser after 15-30 minutes which included youtubing or even just typical surfing the net. Sometimes it would freeze right after I try to start or install the browsers.

2. Thought it was Google Chrome since I get it pretty soon after starting it. So I reinstalled it. Didn't help. Went to firefox, thought it helped and it seemed great for 30 minutes but still got those weird freezes/crashes. Sometimes it seems good like right now but not so sure when later I restart PC or something like that.

3. I did a restore before all of it happened, but I don't know if it got better or not, don't remember. I didn't think it was the solution much because I still wanted to delete those potential threat files off my computer. Would really be bad if someone keylogged my passwords or something because of it.

4. I also noticed a few times while trying to do a full scan on the C: OS hard drive that about 10 minutes in or so, MBAM would freeze. So I did it in Safe Mode with better success.

So the computer would randomly freeze and crash. What do I do now and how do I prevent this in the future? Wouldn't you be paranoid after using a program, wanting to do a quick clean up but instead end up having a malfunctioning computer instead? It's like you drink a little cough syrup just to ease the cough but end up in a coma.

Can't even use my favorite browser Google Chrome at the moment.

I'm actually typing all this on the messed up computer right now. I don't know how long it'll last until it freezes again. What I did was took out my graphics card and plugged it back in. So far it hasn't crashed but could be plain luck.

Surprisingly, even after uninstalling MBAM because I thought it was MBAM that was making it worse, I still found a lot of the PUP.s in the quarantine section and have taken pictures of it if someone wants to see. But Malwarebytes say they're infected. A lot of them are dll files and so forth. A lot from stuff like from YTDtool bar or SPIGOT.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

My cousin uploaded some pics of it here of the files that were quarantined by malwarebytes. Not even sure if it's all of them, I've mentioned uninstalling MBAM, uninstalled and reinstalled like 2 or 3 times to see if it did anything.

Well, just wanted to say it took so long that I found my own solution (didn't sit and wait for 2+ days of having no computer to work with to do my work, I don't need TV, I don't need cable, don't need anything except my computer).

1. It's true that I THINK MBAM does not delete important system files. Not even 100% sure, so much happened during the time of me trying to fix this problem. There were two very coincidental things that happened. The day before, I did a very light cleaning inside my pc, mostly using pressurized air can to blow away the dust. I must have slightly, very slightly moved the graphics card (have done it tons of times before without this happening so I find it quite odd). Hence the computer screen and computer locking up a few minutes after starting up or watching videos and such.

2. It was confusing because inbetween all that, I was installing and uninstalling MBAM.

In conclusion:

Did a system repair: Windows say nothing wrong.

Did scannow: Nothing

Did a restore: Nothing

Updated Graphics Card Driver: Nothing

Was close to giving up and such.

Problem 1: Loose graphics card.

Problem 2: MBAM proactive protection locks startup. I got the hint when it tried locking up my Google Chrome.

Did a search, seems like it's a common thing. I just wanted to use this as a scanner once in awhile. Heard you have to disable antivirus (I have kaspersky) before installing and sometimes put it in the excursion list (which I've done before but didn't seem to do anything and for some weird reason could not find MBAM.sys to put it on the list (it just doesn't show up on the list in kaspersky).

6+ hours of scanning, 3+ hours of installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, 2+ hours making sure no other parts inside my computer is loose, and so forth over the course of a few days.

What a PAIN and a major waste of time. Will only turn this on when I need to scan and only after disabling antivirus.

Computer perfectly fine after disabling all proactive protection and when windows start. Google Chrome back to normal.

I'm paranoid now. I really hope my computer is fixed. I wake up and start my computer crossing my fingers that it's not out of order again. Very frustrating.

What's scary is that if I hadn't found the solution by some time today, I would have spent $60 and driving 20 miles down to the computer repair store and lose a few more days during the time they get to my computer to try to repair it or do a whole computer reformat with 400+ GB of data on this hard drive. I have most of it backed up but it would have been a major pain putting it back in order.

Windows won't repair, check disk shows nothing, nothing showed anything.

Glad I found it before I lost my patience.

STEP 0
RKill is a program that was developed at BleepingComputer.com that attempts to terminate known malware processes
so that your normal security software can then run and clean your computer of infections.
When RKill runs it will kill malware processes and then removes incorrect executable associations and fixes policies
that stop us from using certain tools. When finished it will display a log file that shows the processes that were
terminated while the program was running.

As RKill only terminates a program's running process, and does not delete any files, after running it you should not reboot
your computer as any malware processes that are configured to start automatically will just be started again.
Instead, after running RKill you should immediately scan your computer using the requested scans I've included.

Please download Rkill by Grinler from one of the links below and save it to your desktop.

Link 2

  • On Windows XP double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • On Windows Vista/Windows 7 or 8, right-click on the Rkill desktop icon and select Run As Administrator
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.

STEP 01
Backup the Registry:
Modifying the Registry can create unforeseen problems, so it always wise to create a backup before doing so.
  • Please download ERUNT from one of the following links: Link1 | Link2 | Link3
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.
  • Double click on erunt-setup.exe to Install ERUNT by following the prompts.
  • NOTE: Do not choose to allow ERUNT to add an Entry to the Startup folder. Click NO.
  • Start ERUNT either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup process.
  • Choose a location for the backup.
    • Note: the default location is C:\Windows\ERDNT which is acceptable.

[*]Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are selected. [*]Click on OK [*]Then click on YES to create the folder. [*]Note: if it is necessary to restore the registry, open the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

STEP 02
Please run a Threat Scan with MBAM.  If you're unable to run or complete the scan as shown below please see the following:  MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
When reinstalling the program please try the latest beta version.

Right click and choose "Run as administrator" to open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and from the Dashboard please Check for Updates by clicking the Update Now... link
Open up Malwarebytes > Settings > Detection and Protection > Enable Scan for rootkit and Under Non Malware Protection set both PUP and PUM to Treat detections as malware.
Click on the SCAN button and run a Threat Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware by clicking the Scan Now>> button.
Once completed please click on the History > Application Logs and find your scan log and open it and then click on the "copy to clipboard" button and post back the results on your next reply.

STEP 03
Please download RogueKiller and save it to your desktop.

You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • RogueKiller 32-bit | RogueKiller 64-bit
  • Quit all running programs.
  • For Windows XP, double-click to start.
  • For Vista,Windows 7/8, Right-click on the program and select Run as Administrator to start and when prompted allow it to run.
  • Read and accept the EULA (End User Licene Agreement)
  • Click Scan to scan the system.
  • When the scan completes Close the program > Don't Fix anything!
  • Don't run any other options, they're not all bad!!
  • Post back the report which should be located on your desktop.

Thank you
