Part of the issue is that you have MBAM and AVG in Compatibilty mode.  Please make backup of your Registry and then open
Regedit.exe and browse to the following keys in bold and delete all the entries listed and found below.  It is always better if at all possible to run all programs without compatibility mode.
One should only use compatibility mode if the program just will not run properly without it.  In the case of our program it will not work right if you have it listed here in the Registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\appCompatFlags\Layers

    C:\Users\Brad\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp2_AFT Win Driver v3232.zip\AFT Win Driver v3232\setup.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Pinnacle\Studio 11\Bender_64bit_Setup.exe
    C:\Users\Brad\Downloads\BingBarSetup (1).EXE
    C:\Program Files (x86)\KONICA MINOLTA\_uninst\_Prt2300\uninstall.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Illustrator 9.0.1\Illustrator.exe
    E:\Downloads\Motorola\MML_Installer-v1.5.2091.0.exe
    SIGN.MEDIA=204017A setup.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\SETUP.EXE
    D:\Downloads\Nikon\S-CNX2__-228WU-___EN-32BIT_.exe
    SIGN.MEDIA=26C99C SetupWizard.exe
    SIGN.IE=0360B08 BingBarSetup-Partner.EXE
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AVCWare\Ringtone Maker\Uninstall.exe
    E:\Downloads\kodak\DCSFFM_V_4_2_0.exe

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\appCompatFlags\Layers

    C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG10\Notification\XobniMiniAVGSetup.exe
    SIGN.MEDIA=ABC9E42 Viewsonic.exe
    F:\VSWizard.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Illustrator 9.0.1\Illustrator.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6\Bridge.exe
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6 (64 Bit)\Bridge.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Photoshop.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\Cool & Quiet\cnq.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

Give that a try first and restart the computer when finished removing the entries.

Then let me know how it's running and if updates are working again or not.

Please do the following.

Temporarily fully uninstall AVG antivirus from the Control Panel, Add/Remove.

Then reboot.  Then download and run this removal tool from AVG

AVG antivirus remover

Then temporarily download and install Microsoft Security Essentials and update it so that you have an antivirus product while we continue to work on this issue.

Download - Microsoft Security Essentials

Then run the MBAM Clean Removal procedure again.

Then let me know if it's updating now or not.

Please download the following tool and run it and send us back the log.

Also please run this

Create an Autoruns Log:

  • Please download Sysinternals Autoruns from here.
  • Save Autoruns.exe to your desktop and double-click it to run it.
  • Once it starts, please press the Esc key on your keyboard.
  • Now that scanning is stopped, click on the Options button at the top of the program and select Verify Code Signatures
  • Once that's done press the F5 key on your keyboard, this will start the scan again, this time let it finish.
  • When it's finished, please click on the File button at the top of the program and select Save and save the Autoruns.arn file to your desktop and close Autoruns.
  • Right click on the Autoruns.arn file on your desktop and hover your mouse over Send To and select Compressed (zipped) Folder
  • Attach the Autoruns.zip folder you just created to your next reply

I may have figured this out in a moment of clarity.. When I originally purchased my program, you could have it on two machines for lifetime. Now I see that the license is for one machine for lifetime . I have it installed on two machines running the same OS, and one works just fine on updates while the other will not.

No, we're not that strict - it's against the EULA but if we we locking it out the other services would not start either.

The AutoRuns did not show anything obvious that would stop it either.

So do you get an error message or what happens?

Please download MiniToolBox save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following check-boxes:

  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using Reset FF Proxy Settings option Firefox should be closed.
