firewall advice

Hi there -

Having recovered from a virus with your help, I have a firewall question -

Doesn't windows include a firewall? If another is installed, does one disable the windows firewall, or run both?

kalimba, what operating system are you using?

Are you using a router with a built in firewall?

Both XP and Vista have a firewall but XP's is mainly inbound protection and Vista has inbound and limited outbound protection so SphinxSoftware provides Vista Firewall Control:

Edit: I see that you are using XP so how do you connect to the Internet DSL or Cable and what is the make and model of the modem which is the connection box that provides Internet access?

I wonder how you could see that I am using xp?

Well, honestly, I live in a dense urban environment and my computer taps in to local wireless connections. I'm not sure how that works, when I bought the box three years ago, it automatically found the connections.

When those fail, which is rare, i use dial-up.
