  1. MalwareBytes with lifetime updates is *almost free - and well-worth the money. The SUPPORT is *fantastic*!

Here's a nudge to help..

I saved enough to pay for the lifetime updates.

  2. HI thnaks exile360 so its safe to run mbam @ sas pro versions at same time with microsoft security essentials, still not to sure about threatfire will give it some more time though. Also am thinking of returning to avast5.0 free would that be a wise move at a later date as they still seem to be having problems with this security 2010 and its varients.

  3. Hi Shy,

Well with your background you're used to the applications being able to control that but on Windows there are very few sophisticated applications that can use threading properly and set CPU affinity - in brief the answer is no and I would not expect it any time soon. Home computers are not like the Main Frames of yesteryear that had to time slice applications well for all types of resources. On the PC the OS attempts to give everyone equal share time of the resources (though it doesn't always work out well) there are some high end applications that do used threading but they too don't typically set CPU usage.

In theory the best practice is to shut down all other applications including Web browsers and run your scan.

Got'cha.. It was just on my wish-list. Perhaps for 1.56 or later; we're only coming up on 1.45 now. Lots'a time to ask ahead of.. *wry grin*

    Regards,

    Shy

PS: I have a 2-year old computer with dual 2.6ghz cpus and I run a $#*&load of background tasks and MBAM-scanning only increases my usage to about 48% max on the "gadget". I was just feeling the other user's pain. *wink*

  6. Hi.

Can i disable Malwarebytes IP Protection permanently?

    Anyway at all?

    Thanks

Yes; Use Option 3 as indicated below.

    Registry Switches for Controlling IP-Blocking

Create the indicated registry value (labeled as key | value) with the indicated data and reboot to enforce the policies below. All of the values are of type DWORD

In order to create a registry value, open the Registry Editor (Click on Start -> Run -> and type in REGEDIT.EXE)

Browse to the key listed, and then right-click in the right-hand panel and choose New -> DWORD and create one of the listed keys and set the value as shown.

    x86 32 Bit Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    1. x64 64 Bit Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malwaresilentipmode

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, the protection module will block and log IPs silently.

    2. startipdisabled

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, IP blocking will start disabled on reboot, although it can be enabled subsequently.

    3. disableipblocking

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, IP blocking will be permanently disabled (cannot be toggled).

  7. :)

It was touched on by several users in previous messages.. They (Norton and McAfee) are bloated, CPU hogging inept pieces of software. :) *BUT*, the BIGGEST issue is them not willing to support NON-paying (for support) individuals in the forums, email, etc, et al.

They cater to; and make their BIG $$$; selling, and giving, support to Corporations. Individuals users are a pesky, not-really-necessary, steaming dog pile they act as if they stepped in and can't wait to clean their shoes of..

TRY getting *ANY* kind of support from them that could hold a smoldering candle to the type of FAST, ACCURATE, OWNERSHIP-TAKING, WILLING support you get in forums with companies like MalwareBytes with EXPERTS as well as regular forum users always willing to pitch in and help with a user's problem. And the FIRST words in their messages is *NOT*, "Did you pay for MBAM or are you just a freeloader," BUT, "How can we help?," or "Tell us what we can do to help?"

I've been in computing since 1981 and I know a LOT about which Companies give good support and those that don't. Most recently I finally gave up on Sunbelt's VIPRE (paid user for three years), their paid-for Firewall after a week of usage, and System Mechanic Pro, paid user for 2 years. I've seen more support on MBAM's forum -GOOD support - in the last three or four days than I've seen on my last TEN years' of various programs.

Just my opinion (and proud to verbalize it!)

  8. [...] I also suggest anyone who is dissatisfied or satisfied with this IP Protection impact to download speeds make it known here and add to this string. [...]

I have 10M down / 1M up service I normally average 8.9-9.5M down / .9M up from the Tampa Bay area to Chicago. With IP Protection on I get 7.8M / .9M avg; with it off I get a 8.3M avg. I can live with it. Then again I used a 300/1200 BAUD modem way back when.. Since you're getting a refund with no argument perhaps you should take your money and buy a different program. *shrug* I dunno.. each to his own. :)

  9. ZoneAlarm caused this problem on mine. Removed ZoneAlarm (just installed it trying to see what MBAM-Pro was seeing with active protection) with Revo, then did a system restore from before installing ZoneAlarm. Re-installed MBAM-Pro over the original MBAM-Pro - errors went away.

    Your mileage may vary.

Ummmm.... sorry, my error code was different.. and I meant MBAM-Registered instead of MBAM-Pro.. Gggrrrr.. couldn't edit my post; sorry for the misinformation.

    *sigh*

  10. After working with MBAM tech support for almost a week and ERROR#5 problem not resolved yet. Out of all of the computers running MBAM am I the only one getting this error message. Please lead me to the refund line.java script:add_smilie(":(","smid_23")

  11. Really good suggestion as there have been times more than one popped up and I was not sure which was which and actually allowed a bad site unintentionally.

I guess if I had to choose between the name of the blocked IP or what process on my computer was trying to make contact with the blocked IP, I'd have to go with the process... Then again I'm not sure how practical my suggestion is as I imagine the code might slow down an older CPU/computer. Perhaps a point could be made to offer the option, one way or another?

    Shy

  12. Hello,

I'd like to suggest in a future version that the IP protection log also show the whois-name for the IP address. The whois part could be done as a background task and appended to the log after the IP BLOCKED pop-up disappears so it wouldn't slow down whatever the user is doing or muddy up the desktop. Right now I'm doing individual whoises as I read the log the next day. It's a matter of curiousity than anything else; of course, even better, would be the process/image/cookies/etc/et al that is trying to reach that IP address. :P

Thanks for listening (I *did* buy the Pro after a day of using the free version.. nice program)
