I am uncertain as to whether I have a virus or not. I am not sure that I do, but I do have one thing that kind of convinces me I do. I was browsing for mods for one of my favourite games. The website I normally go to seems to have a bought out domain. Upon visiting this site, I was redirected a few times to a website with a blank screen. I'm not sure whether I was lapsing, but I think it downloaded something as (I use firefox) I think I saw the blue download arrow flash. Normally upon closing firefox it would cancel any concurrent downloads, so I closed it right away. The last time I had any -ware (adware) it showed up in downloads (but extracted itself). This was fixed with MBAM. This time, it did not show in the downloads and although it refreshed a few times I am not sure if that is the case of it being cancelled or it quickly extracting itself.
The thing that makes me want to think I have a virus is that MBAM will not open. Chameleon will open but after seeing the run thing I didn't want to go further. I am scared to turn my computer on for fear that some malware may damage it during use or whatever happens to it.
I also do not wish to encounter having to download and run other stuff like Farbar or RKill as not only for the same reason as above, but the fact that it is very long winded.
If this helps I run Windows 8.1 and my antivirus expired a long time ago and we do not have enough money to renew it (hence the reason I now run MBAM). My Windows Firewall settings were set to reccomended and I would also like you to know that I do NOT run pirated programs or have torrents on my PC, nor do I support it.
I asked a few friends at my school what to do. They asked me what website I redirected it to. I vaguely remember it had a few numbers and letters, something like xr2k3.com (not sure if that is right, do not click it for fear that this may happen.)
Please help - this is my last resort!
