  1. Hello Woomera,

I'm a little confused about what you're trying to say.

Normally after a scan, this would happen:

You are prompted with actions you can take with all of the infections found. After, you can click on "view details" to open a scan results page that will show information regarding MBAM, the options enabled, and what infections were removed. You should also be prompted with a notification to reboot your computer if there were infections removed.  If not, then there is no prompt to reboot.

Are you seeing any issues in removal of infected files or scan results?

  2. When I hit the Scan Now at bottom of Dashboard the scan window opens and I have mine set to check for Updates and then it shows Threat Scan. On the top of the Dashboard screen click on the Scan icon and it will give you a choice as to what type of scan to run.

    Jim

Yes, this is correct.  The "Scan Now" button on the dashboard will start a Threat Scan as it will check all the places that malware would be installed.  This is usually the better option as it checks all needed locations but doesn't waste time checking every single file available.

MBAM 2.0 will always check for database updates before your scan no matter what type of scan you choose.  If it does not prompt you, then you either have the latest database or you cannot access the update server and it will start the scan automatically.

On the top, if you click the Scan button next to the Dashboard button, it will take you to the Scan tab.  This tab will display all types of scans that you can do (Threat, Custom or Hyper).  If a scan has already been started, then it will show you the current status of the scan (including the check for updates that was mentioned).

Going back to your original post, are you requesting that clicking on "Scan Now" takes you to the "Scan Tab" showing which scans you would like to run?

  3. I am unable to update to the latest version of MBAM v2.0.00.0.503 from my previous version of MBAM v2.00.0.0028. When i click on CHECK FOR UPDATES in the application, it scans for the updates and says as NO UPDATES AVAILABLE. Do i need to delete the old beta version and install the updated beta version. thankyou.

So to clarify a few things in regards to upgrading:

In MBAM 2.00.0.0028 you cannot upgrade to MBAM 2.00.0.0503 by clicking "update database" on the dashboard.  You will need to download the build directly from this link.

If you had previously installed MBAM 2.00.0.0502, then it is possible to upgrade to MBAM 2.00.0.0503 by clicking "update database" on the dashboard.

If you have any issues upgrading, let us know and we can work through it together or get the issue reported if it's a new bug.

    Edit:  What Strenalis said.  :P

  4. Yes, the terminology we're using has changed from 1.75.

If you see here, where the option to set passwords has changed as there is a dedicated section for it in MBAM 2.0:

    post-119961-0-34771700-1393022056_thumb.

Instead of "Set Password", we now have a section called "Access Policies" that some of you have pointed out.  Please let us know if you have any more opinions/suggestions in regards to this.

  5. For point number 2. check that the option under Settings -> Update Settings, if the 'Notify user if Database is out of date for more than n days' is unchecked then mbam will report that the database is up to date. i reported this on thread https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=141612&hl=

Yup, you are exactly right Brendtw.  That's so far the only way I've seen to get the same results.  I will report this to development and see what they think of the issue.  It is strange that it gives a warning error, but shows the green check mark.

  6. Hello EJones,

It sounds like something has happened to your installation.  Have you tried the following yet?

    • Reboot your computer and see if MBAM is running.
    • Uninstall MBAM 2.0 and reinstall.  (Unfortunate that you may have to do it again, but it sounds as though something may have happened to your installation due to the corrupt database bug we had last week)

If you haven't tried those, please try my suggestions and let me know if this helped with your issue.  If not, we can work through it together to solve it.

  7. Seeing as there are very many different questions I will try to answer as many of them as I can for now.

I don't mind if it does this during a dedicated scan, since I do not use my PC while a scan is running, but to cripple the PC at every startup is not good and a major inconvenience.

A possible fix for this would be to Delay Protection at startup.  Under Advanced Settings, you can turn the option to delay MBAM's real-time protection at start up by a set amount of seconds.

    post-119961-0-49452000-1392771807_thumb.

If this does not help with that issue, you can choose to uncheck Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with Windows.  If you do this, you will have to start MBAM manually after your computer has booted.

This version v2.0 beta 2 is using too much CPU, constantly at or near 100%.

Comparing MBAM 2.0 and 1.75, there is a difference in CPU usage.  As MBAM 2.0 is currently still in BETA we still have more optimization to do.  In the next public BETA there should be a fix as far as memory usage is concerned but CPU usage during scanning will still be higher compared to 1.75.

I was in error before in understanding how 'mbamservice.exe' CPU usage on my W8 computer could be mitigated.  It appears that going into File Details and changing the compatibility to W7 and clicking on run as administrator did nothing to mitigate the high CPU usage.

Even with that done and when logging in as top level adminstrator on the W8 computer 'mbamservice.exe' CPU usage remains high.   However, I have tested the following a couple of times and so far so good as a work around.  After booting or restarting the computer I let MBAM 2.0 Beta finish .0503 loading.  I then exit it.  After that I right click on the the MBAM icon and select run as adminstrator.  When I do this the CPU usage is a noticeably lower and does not appear to slow down other programs.   Since I normally don't restart the computer very much I can deal with this for now.  I will see what happens with MBAM 2.0 RTM when it becomes available.

Please try using the method I posted above about delaying protection at start up.  Doing this may help solve the immediate issue of mbamservice.exe having high CPU usage as it's similar to your current solution of exiting MBAM and restarting it.

If anyone has any additional comments, questions, or concerns please post them and I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability.

  8. Is there anything I can do here to help?  So far, on my system, all is working fine.  I am really impressed at the faster complete scan speed.

No, there is no need to do anything more on your end.  We have been able to replicate the delay with the self-protection module and will have our developers look at the issue.  Thank you very much for the compliment!

  9. 1. Do I need to download these files on the computer I have the problem with or can I download them using a another computer and move them to the computer I am having the problem with?

    - [edited section] You can download these files on either computer.  As long as you are able to run the file on the computer that the issue occurred on.

    2. Once I download them what do I do with them?

    - Please run the program on the computer with the issue and it will create 2 logs: DDS.txt and Attach.txt.  This will list various programs and services installed on your computer which will give us a better idea of what software is installed in case there may be a compatibility issue as to why enabling self-protection causes your computer to freeze.

I also wanted to ask again to make sure, your computer is unusable after attempting to enable self-protection?  You cannot use the computer at all until you restart manually using the power button?

Thank you for cooperating with us.  We want to do everything we can to get this issue fixed.

Edited for clarification, my previous response did not answer the first question clearly.  :(

  10. Nesivos,

I've been able to replicate what was reported by ComputerDoctor in regards to a delay.  Your issue seems to be much more severe.  I was hoping you could do a few things to help us find out more about what is going on.

First, could you get us a few logs using DDS?

    DDS Instructions:
Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
    dds.scr
    dds.com

Afterwards you should get 2 logs: DDS.txt and Attach.txt

  11. Curious as to why all of a sudden?? The only change since I installed it 2 days ago has been Database Updates .. no components were changed. (I don't think..)

    Thanks for looking into it.

    Steve

Something had changed just today with the latest database.  It looks like this started with the database version v2014.02.14.07 so if you have a database older than that, please do not update!
