AntiVirus protection

Hello,

I had my Webroot Antispyware and Antivirus protection removed by a technician. I recently tried to download just an antivirus program from the internet but it tells me that i already have one running. The Webroot shows that it is off, but i do have Windows Defender, which i understand does give me some viurs protection. I still get a window come up telling me that i need to update my antiviurs definitions, this is the Webroot Panel that comes up.

So, i am not sure if i have full anitvirus protection through the Windows Defender or the Webroot is still interefering with downloading a new antivirus protection i want to download from the internet. Let me add, that no matter i hard i try, i cannot update any Webroot definitions. In the past i had a lot of trouble with Webroot, and no matter what they told me to do, it did not fix my problems. I hope i have given someone enough information for some much needed advice.

Thank You,

Hello lazydave,

Windows Defender by itself is not a sufficent substitute at all for having an antivirus.

You must have an AV of some sort.

My guestimate is that an AV component of Spysweeper has been left behind.

Tell us which AV you tried to install.

Meantime, run this tool, which will provide us some insight on your system.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds here or http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr or

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds

Disable any script blocker if your antivirus/antimalware has it.

Then double click dds.scr to run the tool.

When done, DDS.txt will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

[*]Save both reports to your desktop.

Please include the following logs in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Attach.txt
