Scanning..slower..slower...slower...

Recommended Posts

Hello;

I seem to observe that the scanning is getting sower and slower...a lot of friends are also seeing this..wether it's the Pro or free version. On my gig I have a:

Windows 7 x32 (Mbam Pro --on demand)

4gb ram (DDR3)

320gb system disk( 25% full --clean/no malware/virus),

500gb logical drive

....took 2+hours on the system disk only (2.25hours I think....).

On my XP SP3 (Mbam free)

4gb ram (DDR2)

160gb (35% full --clean/no malware/virus),

1 terabyte logical

...took 2hours on system disk alone!

Is this normal...? I remember that the scan sped have "sort-of" improved when verson 1.50 arrived but now..so..so....Formerly I scan every after surfing the internet. Now no. Monthly because of this.

Can you enlighten me on this....

Hello Malik521,

What is the processor for each of these systems?

Long scan times can be contributed by other processes running while a scan is going. Other software can take up system resources.

Try to do a full scan after you restart then computer then run a program like CCleaner

Download and install CCleaner

  • Download CCleaner HERE
  • Click on the downloaded file "ccsetup-Installer"
  • Keep the default installation folder "C:\Program Files\CCleaner"
  • Click finish when done and close ALL PROGRAMS including your Web Browser
  • Start the CCleaner program
  • Click on Run Cleaner button on the bottom right side of the program
  • Click OK to any prompts
Note, this will remove cookies as well so if you do want to keep them then uncheck them before running it

Are you surfing the net while running a full scan? I would recommend after doing stuff on the system to perform a quick scan. Then do the full scans after a restart and running a cleaner tool.

Thank you!

My sincerest Apologies, I copied a bit too much from my message. I have it edited correctly for how to install and run CCleaner.

If you are already familiar with it then ignore that portion of the message.

If you could add (copy/paste) the most recent full scan log in your next reply that will be greatly appreciated :)

Hello Malik521,

It is difficult to determine full scan times from before to today, since that changes daily. Every file that gets added/deleted can increase the length of the scan time. Especially with temporary files plus system restore points since a full scan scans those as well. A temporary file cleanup will make the scan go through more quickly.

After important updates are installed the scan time will increase due to creating the extra system restore points, back up files, etc...

When you want a full scan to go faster, please try to temporarily disable your Anti-virus Software. Every file MBAM checks will also be checked by your AV.

If you feel the scan time is still too long please provide me with an OTL log.

Please Download OTL to your Desktop:

To Use OTL:

  • Get OTL From
HERE
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
OTL should now start. Change the following settings
Change Drivers to All
Change Standard Registry to All
Under File Scans, change File age to 30
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt (first run only). These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please attach these 2 files in your next reply.

Thank you very much!
