Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.

Click the green ESET Online Scanner button.

Read the End User License Agreement and check the box: YES, I accept the Terms of Use.

Click on the Start button next to it.

You may receive an alert on the address bar that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". Click on that alert and then click Insall ActiveX component.

A new window will appear asking "Do you want to install this software?"".

Answer Yes to download and install the ActiveX controls that allows the scan to run.

Click Start.

Check Remove found threats and Scan potentially unwanted applications.

Click Scan to begin.

If offered the option to get information or buy software. Just close the window.

Wait for the scan to finish

Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Open taskmanager > File > new

in the open window type:

CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2

Look for your name and see if you have Administrator rights.

Also see if there are any user names that you didn't create.

Make sure Guest account is Disabled

While we are ther, lets create a new user with Administrator rights

Click Desktop > Customize Desktop > General > Make sure My Computer has a check mark

Next: Click the Web button > make sure nothing is checked..and make sure there isn't a check in Lock DeskTop Icons

Close it and see if the desktop is showing.

A reboot might be necessary

I'm not sure which ones are which and which ones have been created by me because I don't remember creating any. The name on the start menu was always standalone and whether thats on default I don't know. But next to that name it has Adminstrators; Users under the Group column.

Do this first:

Click Desktop > Customize Desktop > General > Make sure My Computer has a check mark

Next: Click the Web button > make sure nothing is checked..and make sure there isn't a check in Lock DeskTop Icons

Close it and see if the desktop is showing.

If not then create a new user:

Do you see an option to create a new user?

If so do so and reboot > login as that new user name.

Let me know what we have now.

I can't see an option for a new user. Do I click on an existing one and rename it?
Just click on yours and make sure you have administrator rights.

Also on the Administrator account, set a password for that account. One you WON'T forget.

We might need a different command to create a new user

I found new user. It's in the group membership that I check Other then click on Administrators, right?
Yes. Create a new user with Admin rights and a password that you WON'T forget

Also be sure you do this:

Click on yours and make sure you have administrator rights.

Also on the Administrator account, set a password for that account. One you WON'T forget.

When you get to the Windows login you'll need to select the user you want and use the password to login.

I know it's a pain doing that but it's alot safer in the long run.
