I went through all the instructions for installing Malwarebytes, including the PreHJT thread. I had Norton and removed it.

I installed Antivir and ran the scan.

I installed Online Armor and ran the scan.

I installed Malwarebytes and ran the scan.

I changed the default browser to Firefox 1.9.1.3685.

I use Yahoo! as my home page. I still get redirects on any search. I also got redirected when I tried to download Malwarebytes from the Malwarebytes home page. The link properties showed the correct exe file, but I got redirected to this in Internet Destroyer: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Malwa...re/1186760019/1

I was able to download MB through a forum link. I downloaded and ran the programs listed above, but the problem is still here. I may also have a virus, although nothing detects it. It went through the contacts in my Yahoo email account and sent out a bunch of malicious links. I do not use Outlook Express. I've never established an email account with my ISP (Comcast). I've never initialized Outlook Express. I get pop up messages that Outlook Express wants to compress my emails, but the only email in the folder is the generic welcome/setup from Microsoft.

I think I did everything right. The machine has restarted since I removed Norton and installed Antivir, Online Armor, and Malwarebytes.

Zynga toolbar is for the game Mafia Wars and was an intentional download.

Here is the HJT log:

I ran Avira and Malwarebytes several times.

Avira found this: TR/Trash.Gen2 - Trojan and deleted it three times. I assume it has restored itself again.

Malwarebytes found two trojans during the quick scan:

I didn't see the reply notification from you, so please pardon the delay. I checked my spam folder, too.

The redirects stopped for a few days, but started again yesterday. I used to get redirects to irrlevant search topics in bing! and other, smaller search engines. Now if I run a Yahoo search and click one of the returns, I get sent to this:

I downloaded Defogger disable from the link you provided and ran it. I disabled the cd emulation drivers and continued the program. I got the finished message, but it never asked me to restart. The window that asked to disable the cd emulation drivers would not close, either by itself, or when I clicked the close tab in the window. I have stopped there.

GMER Rootkit crashed my system 5 times.

The system locked up the first time I tried to run it. Then it restarted when I tried to run it. Then it crashed, then restarted, finally crashed when I opened the program to see if there was a log that might have been saved during these crashes.

I have deleted it.

Right now, Firefox is running properly. It sent out another spam email through my Yahoo! account on Tuesday. I have to wait until my friends get annoyed and demand to know why I am sending them viagra solicitations before I find out about this. Outlook Express is still asking to compress my emails. There aren't any emails when I open Outlook Express and check.

Step 1

Please, uninstall the following applications:

  1. Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - English, Fran?ais, Deutsch
  2. Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 - CPSID_53951

You can read, how to do this here:

Step 2

Please go into the Control Panel, Add/Remove and for now remove ALL versions of JAVA

Then run this tool to help cleanup any left over Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it back when you reply
Then look for the following Java folders and if found delete them.
    C:\Program Files\Java
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java
    C:\Windows\Sun
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sun\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java

Step 3

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to "Update" tab and select "Check for Updates". If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Go to "Scanner" tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

  1. JavaRa log
  2. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log
  3. a new fresh DDS log only

I can't unistall Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 CPSID_53951

I can't even find it.

It looks like I am not the only one with this issue.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/539/cpsid_53951.html

I ran Search and included everything on the C: drive, but it doesn't find the program. It returns these three results:

The redirector is still present, although its function is weak. It redirected one search this morning to ybinst.com, but stopped affecting searches after I closed and reopened Firefox. Yesterday my system sent out another email through Yahoo!

Thanks!

**Note: If you need more detailed information, please visit the web page of ComboFix in BleepingComputer. **

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper.

Please download ComboFix from

Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Open Tools -> Options -> Main tab
    • Set to Always ask me where to Save the files.

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

CF_download_FF.gif

CF_download_rename.gif

[*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.

[*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

[*]Close any open browsers.

[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Close any open browsers.
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.

[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you.

[*]Please post the C:\Combo-Fix.txt for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

I didn't see Online Armor in the list of programs to deactivate while running ComboFix. I assume I should deactivate the firewall by unchecking it, and also the program guard. I am also not sure if I should deactive HIPS features for Online Armor.

Both links to download ComboFix want to download it as a binary file, not an application. Does this matter? BTW, I have enabled my firewalls, etc., until you direct me to proceed.

Disable your Online Armor and Avira too. Then download and run ComboFix.

I disabled Online Armor, Avira, and Windows Firewall. Java scripts were enabled. Activex scriptlets were disabled.

I downloaded Compfix, renamed it Comp-Fix from the second link you provided, and saved it to the desktop. I closed all web browsers and ran it. It sat there for two hours and did nothing. It brought up an MS-DOS window that said:

Scanning for infected files. This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes. However, scan times for badly infected machines may easily double."

The c drive did not turn at all during the period. It was not scanning.

I had to shut off the main power to get out of it.

When I restarted, Windows Defender was on. I know I disabled it; it was the first one I disabled.

I am confused. The security settings I use for internet access are set to medium high. Should I set privacy to "accept all" and try this again?
