Protected Service Won't Start

Having just used the free version of MBAM to remove (?) a load of viruses, I thought I'd buy the full version to keep me secure in the future. However, I believe that one or more of the viruses has altered the registry such that the Protected Service for MBAM won't start. Incidentally, nor will G Data, my antivirus package. I'm hoping someone knows how to help!!!
