IE7 launches Privacy Tools trojan

Recommended Posts

WinXP Home SP3

| I cleaned system with MalwareBytes 1.42 and SpyHunter until it came up fully

| clean. When I launched IE7 to check for system updates, SpyDoctor caught

| trojan ...9.tmp. I saw a RUNDLL start and the desktop "Privacy Tools" icon

| re-appeared. I then reran MalwareBytes and it found:

| -RogueControlCenter

| -TrojanFakeAlert

| -HiJack.Shell

| -Trojun.Vundo

| -Rogue.P-Clean

| This was immediately after clean screens

| It seems that the trojan is lurking in IE7 ( this system uses firefox for

| web browser).

| How can I cleanse this system.

Hi John L.

First please disable Spydoctor as it will conflict with SpyHunter -

Note that you are running 2 antivirus programs, that will upset your system -

Can you quickly update Malwarebytes (after you disable Spydoctor) and run another quick scan -

Thank you - Please let us know any results - :)

EDIT -

If you have just updated MBAM then just disable as above and let me know of the result -

Please see below if you think that your problem is malware related and follow the instructions I have left -

We don't work on full Malware removal in the general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available
