Very slow startup

Recommended Posts

I have Malwarebytes anti-malware version 2.9.2.1012 with Database 2014.7.19.2. When i start up my machine (windows 7), it takes 2-5 minutes after the desktop shows up before the icon appears. If I try do anything before that it takes forever to complete even the smallest task. When I remove MBAM, the machine starts fine with no lag time. Then when I reinstall it, the same problem appears. I have used the MBAM clean uninstall and reinstalled several times. I have searched this forum and found others with the same issue but I am unable to find a solution here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and :welcome: :

It's hard to say whether this is a software issue (e.g. lots of programs in the startup folder, AV software, etc), or perhaps a hardware issue, a cluttered disk, etc.

A couple of easy things to check:
Please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE. Please post back if you need help with that.

You might also want to try changing the settings as follows: Settings > Advanced Settings > Advanced Options > Delayed Protection and selecting one of the choices from the drop-down menu.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue, please start with these steps -- if you have already reinstalled using the preferred method in step #1, then you might want to skip down to step #2 and post back the diagnostic logs:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
