In the Windows Operating System, I have used Malwarebytes AntiMalware and Malwarebytes 3 alongside Windows Defender with no issues. I personally haven't seen a study that states this is an effective combination, but recommend it to my clients based on these experiences. I have numerous (dozens) of clients that use the same combination and none have reported a problem or malware infection. This has been consistent for over 4 years - both for myself and my clients. I know that several of my clients spend time on "less-than-nice" sites, but still have no issue with this combination for protection. I had my daughter install Malwarebytes (with no other antivirus/antimalware programs) on her MacBook Pro over 4 years ago as well and she's had no issues as well. PS: I DID have some clients using Malwarebytes in combination with Microsoft Security Essentials and experienced some significant performance degradation. If a client using that combo complains about slow performance, I uninstall Microsoft Security Essential and activate Windows Defender on their system.
