  1. The specific bsod error is "Stop Code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. What failed: NETIO.SYS"

This is happening on two different computers with different kinds of Virtual Machines. It is very consistently reproducible for me by simply running a virtual machine and malwarebytes at the same time; when only one of the two runs, not problems at all. Im sorry to say that this is probably it for me, I have to cancel my Malwarebytes subscription. It's been a great run, but this is unacceptable. I see years old reports about this specific problem on the internet so I am afraid that it looks like the devs are not interested in a solution for this problem? Maybe because vast majority of users dont use a vm? (or is it really not something they are capable of?).

If you can convince me otherwise that it is still possible to user vm with malwarebytes or there is some way to disable whatever detections causing the bsod, then I'd be happy of course.

When I click "Scan" I get no options to what and how to scan, it just starts.

To get options for scanning I have to use the planner, for example if I want to enable rootkit scanning and to specify drives. This doesnt start immediatly however, even when selecting the current precise minute it will still wait 5 minutes to actually begin the scan.

I dont understand why this is so difficult, it should be straightforward options for me to select when I click "Scan". How does one IMMEDIATELY start a custom scan?

I would like to add that the option to start as soon as possible is also enabled as well as the time to start was set to the current minute.

    Greetings,

Based on what I've been seeing here on the forums, the team does plan to make changes to how the installer works with regards to restarts so some sort of option to defer the system reboot should be included in a future release, though I don't know when.

    Thank you for your feedback.

That would be nice, I like to be in charge of my own computer. I dont like it when major events are pulled down over me like that.

  5. So Malwarebytes told me it needed updating to a new version so I thought hey great lets update. Then when the update was done a popup informed me that the pc would be restarted in 10 min so please save important work (or press on the OK button and restart now). No other options. Unfortunatey I was in the middle of some work that could not be completed in 10 min, so I had no choice to disrupt my work and accept the forced restart.

This is just bad design, even Microsoft finally realized years ago that it probably wasn't a great thing to FORCE restarts in a couple of minutes with users having no way of avoiding it. Can you please reconsider this design decision? It's really not up to date in this day and age.

    Hello @jayman1000:

I am currently trying/using 3 different VPN providers of which PIA is one of them.  All VPN providers are subject to connection failures in their own houses as well as their service providers.  For the short time Malwarebytes has offered the MBPrivacy product, reliability has certainly been on a par with my others and please don't forget that your own service provider too is always part of the equation.

The question may become, is a post failure connection renegotiated seamlessly.

    HTH

Thanks for your feedback; I will probably stay with PIA since they dont seem to have a limit on devices and the price is the best on the market plus they seem to be at least as good the best of all the rest. I would only be interested in changing if there were some that could prevent disconnects now and then (currently only happens on average once a week so I guess it probably unrealistic to expect anything better than this).

  7. I use Private Internet Access currently, which has a great price, seemingly supports unlimited devices (maybe there is an upper limit, but my 16 devices can run concurrently one on sub), and stability is pretty decent. However at times I do get disconnected and have to change country server, sometimes have to do this a couple of times because then the second one I try is also having a problem.

Now im wondering how good is Malwarebytes in terms of stability on american servers? Im not so interested in download speeds, only 20% of my actual internet line will be perfectly fine, but what I am interested in is how stable are american east coast servers? for example New York, Washington etc.

If anyone has any experience I would love to hear your thoughts!

The issue is that Bittorrent, like all P2P applications, uses a wide array of IP addresses for downloading content which includes IPs shared by actual malicious sites, so when a server is included in Malwarebytes' Web Protection block list it gets blocked no matter what application is communicating with it.  How you deal with that is up to you, and we've given you multiple options on how to do so, but unfortunately there is no way for Malwarebytes to know whether or not a specific connection to a known malicious server is benign or not.

I dont mind those IPs being blocked since they are know for malicious actions, it's ok to block them, my bittorrent works fine anyway. The main problem is the intrusive notification that I am not interested in seeing; and as it is I cant select to block only those notifications, it's still all or nothing as it has always been with MB (why not expand on this feature with the 4th iteration in the MB series?).

So, I dont know if you fully understand the issue here: I dont mind MB blocking those IPs, by all means block them out, but please allow me to disable notifications for these "pseudo" detections that aren't actually detecting anything other than a connection to an IP known for malicious actions. I mean say MB actually found something it thinks could be an ACTUAL trojan, or virus, or what have you... I'd like to be notified about that. You understand the difference? ACTUAL malware versus IP that has been know to do malicious actions. There's a pretty important distinction here. I'd like both to be blocked sure, and I'd like to be notified whenever MB thinks it has found ACTUAL malware. But please let me say no thank you to the spam notifications about connections to suspicious IPs.

The Play mode would have been a good idea except that it blocks ALL notifications when said app is running, right? I dont want to block ALL notifications, I'd still like to be notified if there is ACTUAL malware found.

Yes, I was going to suggest excluding it from Web Protection if it was a P2P application.  To do so, please exclude the main executable for your Bittorrent client using the method described under the Allow an application to connect to the Internet found in this support article and that will stop your Bittorrent app from being blocked by Malwarebytes while still retaining full protection for all other applications and system components.

But should I actually exclude the program from web protection? Im only interested in not having to have to click on that popup all the time. What I would really like is for MB to only protect against actual threats in the program, what it finds is not an actual malware (even though it says it is, it's kinda deceptive imo).

Just out of curiosity, which notifications are you trying to disable?  For example, are you seeing frequent web blocks while using a P2P application such as Skype or a Bittorrent client, or is it something else?  I ask because there may be other ways of eliminating the notifications if they have a particular cause without necessarily disabling all notifications.

yes it's when using torrent program, it says it found a trojan on an ip adress, but I know that there is no actual trojan, it's just the ip is suspicious because it has been used in malicious ways before etc etc. But not a threat to me in this context. So I dont want that notification popping up constantly when there is no threat. I wish there were a way to ONLY disable that notification, but I dont know how to.

Hard to say. I would do the restart and see what version of MB is installed after the reboot.

    Please post the results.

After choosing the restart option windows then restarted, it took quite a long time for the program to start. Like 4 minutes or so after logging into windows. Hoping this is one time thing due to the install. Program seems to work.
