ok HP driver is gone. i still see the exe though of uuactokensvc.exe in the task manager. Should i go to msconfig and disable it and then remove it or what route should i go??
Also should i now go and format my usb stick too??
I also dont see any Ubuntu folder or files where you asked me to look so i think its gone
Also should i uninstall that drive (c:) as well since its useless and has nothing on it?
Update:
I also just ran a full search on my computer for any instances of the word Ubuntu and none exist so it must be gone
-
ubuntu is not in my add or remove programs. See, the last time it errored, when i restarted, it said i would need to uninstall it so i did and it seems to be gone. Any other way you want me to check if it is gone for sure? I looked around and all instances of Ubuntu seem to be gone.
Also is there a way for me to double check that CD drive (E:) is useless and doesnt need to be there? See, my DVD burner drive is a sony and is drive (D:) check screenshot
but a while back i had mounted an image for a computer game and then that drive C seemed to stay even when i uninstalled the game. So i assume thats the partition or something even though its useless??
ok i have an option to uninstall the HP virtual cd via the device manager, do i select to uninstall it or disable?
P.S. - the only instances of Ubuntu seem to be the files that we originally put onto the USB stick, drive (H:)
-
oh and that CD drive (E:) is also a unused drive that i think came with a game i downloaded before that had autoplay. If possible i would like to delete that too
-
ok i clicked it and nothing happened, however i notice a exe process running when i check task manager that is related to the HP drive. It is called:
uuactokensvc.exe
also can i simply reformat my USB stick back to get rid of the ubuntu on it or do i simply delete the ubuntu software on it??

oh you mean try running the launcher on drive (F:) and see what happens?
-
comin up. Also i have no HP software showing up in add/remove programs so maybe it wiped everything. But the Launcher is still here
-
Ok, can you help me and direct me on how to remove the other software items for the HP drive? And to remove the HP virtual Launcher. It is called HP Launcher and is under the drive (F:)
ie. will i still have to remove registry entries for the HP drive or am i ok now etc?

ok formatting back to NTFS right now with quick format enabled. It is done now and i will now run that software again
-
UPDATE
hmmm this is weird lol. Even though it gave me that message that it failed, now when i go to look at the drive, it shows in the folder that it is no longer a HP drive simply, G: and when i select properties it shows it as FAT32 now. Maybe it didnt error? Should i still format it back to NTFS, then use that software again?
-
ok great, will do now and report back
-
hmm got an error, let me paste it:

my bad, the default is set to:
32768
So are you certain to leave it as is or should we check into that?
Also leave the check on for quick format? And is quick format better or If i am planning to be out for the next 3 or 4 hours would leaving the check box unselected be better?
-
ok i selected the proper drive but it also asks me: Allocation unit size. Any tips?
also do i keep the check box on for quick format??
Allocation unit size is default set to 65536
-
wow serious?? that easy?
Ok so click the "FAT 32 Formatter" link? Is that what you mean?
-
hmmm just got an error again installing it. i will report the log. Here is the message:
An error occurred:
Bad File Descriptor
I also got a low disk space error so maybe that is the problem. I will post the log, clear some more hard drive space and then uninstall again. then i will wait for you to reply on the log. that ok??
-
thanks a lot. I will download it tonight once we have this external drive sorted !!
P.S. - will windows automatically sort and get rid of things not needed from service pack 2 etc once i install 3 or do i have to do anything myself once i install pack 3?
:)
OH SHOOT just got an error for Ubuntu so i will have to reinstall. Hang on. I am certain the error was my fault because i had accidentally ran ccleaner while installing ubuntu which probably deleted a temp file or slot for ubuntu lol.
I just uninstalled the partially installed software (as requested by Ubuntu), and i am now reinstalling it. It should work fine this time. I will keep you posted and i apologize for my screw up lol
/me facepalms himself

ok great. Once i am done all this stuff, is there a quick way for me to go the microsoft's site and only select to download service pack 3?? Because i am confused as to why my auto updates would not have picked that up over the last years and installed it??
So if you have a link later on today to get me right to downloading service pack 3 that would be great !!
Not sure why my auto updates didnt do it for me
-
i have a pentium 4 2.26 ghz cpu and not a lot of memory, 512 mb
i am also only running sp2, should i update to service pack 3 eventually? Oh and if this continues to take a while should i cancel and restart the install if lets say in 1 hour from now its sitting at the same spot for installation?
-
hmm thats kinda odd...
It has been sitting on "creating the virtual disks" for quite some time now ( i would estimate 30 minutes).
I checked the task manager and it says its running and responding fine, but is it normal for it to take that long for the virtual disks??
-
right now it is still installing, almost finished. It is creating the virtual disks which is taking a bit. I thought i would keep you posted
-
ok cool
It has about 15 more minutes left to install. As soon as it is done, i will reboot and choose to run ubuntu. then i will come back for more instructions
-
ok i will do that as soon as it finishes installing. After that i assume i come back to forums here for further instructions?
Also just got a windows alert about the program pyrun which is an ubuntu program, unblock that correct?
