  1. need some help with that if possible. This is my first time do a reinstall and i also only have the product ID so im a little confused on what to do.

i have a feeling i somehow have a bunch of unregistered files or something. Anyway to re-register files or anything instead of a new install just as one last shot?

  2. Also noticed a whole pile of new errors in system event viewer but is that due to running in safe mode or what? they seem pretty bizarre:

  3. Ok so as suggested in the past by miscrosoft techs, i attempted to run systerm restore rstrui.exe from safe mode command prompt. Here is what happens when i try to run it in command prompt:

I type in the command and a window pops up saying i have no restore points and to create a new one, and they tell me to click on system protection. So on that window is a link to system protection. When i click that link, i get a new popup window called "system properties." And in that window i see no options to do a system restore. I have options like device manager etc. but no option to do a system restore even when i toggle through the tabs in the system properties window. I am confused lol. Or am i missing something when trying to do a restore with command prompt?

  4. I will try again in safe mode, but i remember having an issue where i could not access system restore in safe mode. Let me try again and post you the details.

Ran a complete disk check and seemed to have no problems but i will try that again too.

also noticed something strange whenever i am using any windows certified programs such as check disc or opening up system tools from microsoft that the publishers are always saying publisher: unknown Is this a user privelige issue or what...

  5. I can do a system restore but it stops going  each time as if the volume shadow copy service or something is erroring. So i have done a ton of things to try and get it going again to no avail.

I get these errors each time and tried everything. Maybe you could help:

The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an IO failure on volume C:.

  6. hmm i am wondering why the dns had that error then??? Maybe to do with the new entries i added in? I added them correctly

    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-DNS-Client

There was an error while attempting to read the local hosts file.

Oh and also as stated in my above post, i cannot do system restore nor backups and have followed countless forums and microsoft tips to get it working to no avail, so i cannot do a restore as suggested. Oh and trust me, as much as i would appreciate new advice on how to fix my restore, i highly doubt it will be fixable since i have worked with microsoft techs who could not help either which sux. So maybe my best bet is to back up everything externally without using windows backup and do a fresh install? I have windows 7 but it was already installed when i bought it new however i have a product ID code. Can i still do a fresh reinstall?

P.S. - computer is running fine though exepct for the recent hibernation error. If someone could assist, i can pull up the exact error i got and maybe we could resolve that issue since i cannot restore?

  7. Note: This is not a virus issue so i dont need any help in that area :)

Hey guys or ladies. Had an issue today with my pc.The battery ran out of power while unplugged and as normal my computer did the proper hibernation so when i logged back on i got the normal "continue with system resume" message. However once the computer restarted, i had no internet connections available and i got a critical error message something to do with hibernation not working correctly etc.. So i plugged in via ethernet and was able to get an internet connection And then i restarted the computer a few times and boom the issue was gone and i had wireless connectons available which is normal. However, i am one of those paranoid people who believes that something else could have been wrong so i want to check. And no it isnt a virus issue, i have ran all scans and had logs checked etc. I cant remember the exact way in the system event viewer to pull up only error logs so if someone could help that would be great then i can post them here. Now  dd end up getting the internet connection back but i dont know how or why.

I also am curious about my hosts file. Is it normal that the default hosts file has nothing in it except for the normal sample info, and its up to me to add new ip blocks etc. into it? Because yes i checked it today and it is normal with just the sample text but nothing else in it. Just curious since i had recently added a few blocks i wanted and then noticed i had a hosts error too that popped up in system event viewer. Maybe that caused some of my issues today? Seems weird that would also effect hibernation though...

P.S. - i am considering doing a full reinstall of windows 7 soon just because i am also having issues with doing backups and restores and have tried all fixes online to no avail. So maybe if i dont fix this issue either, someone could guide me with a fresh install etc. ??

  8. Hey guys need some help and since i use these forums a lot for pc stuff, though maybe someone here is also tech savvy with av stuff.

I have a shaw HD digital cable box
5.1 CH Samsung 3D Blu ray surround system
    Samsung UN60F7100 60-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D HDTV

Now the way i have things hooked up now, when i am on a digital 5.1 channel on my cable box, i am getting only 2 channel sound, from the center speaker and the subwoofer. when  should be getting 5.1 since the tv channels i am on support 5.1 etc. I assume i need to use the ARC setup but i am a little confused how to do it. The surround system has HDMI in and out and does support arc. The samsung tv has HDMI 2 set as the arc functioner. So how should i hook things up to get it going in 5.1 sound when watching tv via my hd cable box? Any help appreciated

P.S. - If any more info is required for any of the above devices feel free to let me know smile.gif

  9. yah i can still do backups so instead of a restore i can just do a file backup but it wont do the system files which sux. I will post over there, otherwise everything is still running smooth, probably just some registry f*** up in regards to the system restore. Thanks again Ron, i always appreciate your help :)

  10. i spent 4 hours trying to fix it to no avail. the process program cant find the error either so that didnt help. Oh well i did my best and it seems the online forums havent solved it either as many others are having this issue in windows 7 as well. If you come up with any ideas let me know and thanks !!

  11. i ran the command prompt function as requested and access was approved. I then exited command prompt, did a restart and got that same error for doing a restore. Its pretty frustrating but i am still confused as to why the restore is being denied as i am 99% sure i am full admin but maybe something in services.exe is changed so it cant run it or the program trying to run it is being denied for some reason?? Could that be the issue? Any other ideas or options would be greatly appreciated as i really want to be able to do restores in case of a failure in the future :(

  12. Oh one more thing just before i uninstall: I grabbed a little more info from the event viewer on some of the errors we noticed. I was wonderng if the info i copied from the logs would help. It is to do with those shadow copies. I also noticed something weird in the event viewer log. Is it normal for the computer on its own to try and create restore points or maybe thats to do with my scheduled backing up of the computer cause i got this message too:

The scheduled restore point could not be created.  Additional information: (0x80042308).

this one came in at 2:55 am last night but i wasnt even awake at that time. I am pety sure that one could be auto backup but i dont know why it says restore. Is that maybe to do with auto backups i have scheduled ? If so then disregard lol. Here is the other log since it continues to give me this error in the logs:

Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: VSS was denied access to the root of volume \\?\Volume{817f131e-eef0-11e1-b607-206a8a6d384e}\. Denying administrators from accessing volume roots can cause many unexpected failures, and will prevent VSS from functioning properly.  Check security on the volume, and try the operation again.

    This one confuses me lol.

  14. Oh also its been a quiet boring night for me so i decided to run roguekiller and adwcleaner again. However, i know better than to just delete things without your permission so here are the logs, and it looks like they did find some stuff ( i closed out and did not delete anything), not sure if its serious or not. I also noticed some stuff came back that i had cleaned before in adwcleaner such as C:\END

Logs attached and hope your day is going good Ron :)
