  1. Hello dear admins/mods/users. I did something bad and I'm really sorry for what I did.

I was browsing one forum and I found an activation key for mbam(note* I wasn't searching for it). Out of curiosity, I wanted to try if it works and it did worked. I had the real time protection from mbam. As I said, I'm terribly sorry for what I did and I uninstalled the program. Unfortunately, when I installed it again, somehow it still remembers the code and I still have the real time protection. How can I undone what I did?

best regards, and my deepest apologies for doing illegal thing while you guys work so hard on this magnificent anti malware tool.

Kudos to you for stepping up and doing the right thing!!!

  2. Hi octohorp and welcome to Malwarebytes. You need a layered protection for the safest surfing on the www. Some paid versions of programs are life time others are not. You need to read the license agreements for the programs to see if it may be used on more than one machine. MBAM is lifetime. You need an antivirus program in addition to it. AVG and Avast are both antivirus but should not be used as active programs at once. I would choose Avast over AVG any day.

All recommended programs are free and easy on system resources. You should install them as part of your protection arsenal. You will also need at least one other scanning program Asquared or SuperAntiSpyware are good and there are several other excellent programs with free and paid versions. Read the overviews of what each program below does so you have an understanding of their importance and how to use.

A firewall and antivirus are also essential. The Windows firewall in XP and Vista is not sufficient.

Preform Windows Updates monthly on the second Tuesday or use automatic updates, and use your scanners weekly at the least. Always update before you scan.

Keep other software known for vulnerabilities updated also. Use the Secunia Inspector free scan to identify risks in outdated versions.

    MBAM

Spybot Search & Destroy Be sure to use the immunize feature.

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must. I use and recommend Online Armor Free

Also the full protection of MBAM is offered at a very low price For life in my signature.

  3. Since this issue has been resolved I will close the thread to prevent others from posting into it.

Many of these infections can be avoided with an added layer of prevention. All recommended programs are free and easy on system resources. You should install them as part of your protection arsenal. Keep MBAM and Spybot Search & Destroy and always immunize SBS&D when you update. 4. After using malwarebytes to clean XP Antivirus 2008 off of two systems neither of them will connect to the network nor will they allow anything to be installed. Any installation receives a microsoft installer error. Removing and reinstalling the installer does not fix the problem. Ended up reimaging the systems which should have been done to start with and save a lot of time but I had heard good things about malwarebytes and wanted to give it a try. Sorry guys, your software is worthless.

You have nothing to show MBAM did the damage to your machines. Nor what was the cause of lack of connection. Most likely it was something the malware did certainly not MBAM. Pointless accusations are just that, pointless. Truly sounds like your lack of knowledge was the root of the problem not MBAM. The MS installer is an easy fix and so is the broken LSP for connection.

  5. Hi Bill and welcome to Malwarebytes. Make sure you have enabled email notifications of replies to this topic and have entered this sites address to be allowed in your email. admin at malwarebytes.org where and is @.

Make sure you are in Advanced Mode. Click on the Mode link at the top of the program and then Advanced Mode.

Click on the Tools section and then Resident.

    You will see two items.

    1. Resident "SD helper" (Internet Explorer bad download blocker.) active

    2. Resident "Tea Timer" (Protection of over-all system settings.) active.

    Uncheck number 2..

    Leave number 1 checked always.

You can enable Tea Timer again if you wish once all special fixes have been done.

Now please run a quick scan of your main drive, usually C with MBAM making sure you check all items found for removal. Please post that log in your next reply.

Post the logs from the Panda and MBAM scans please, along with a log from this program HiJack This!

You will post three logs. 1. MBAM scan. 2. Panda Active Scan. 3. HiJack This scan. Please run and post the scans in this order. You will finish the MBAM first so go ahead and post that log, then move on to Panda and so forth.

  6. A layered protection is the best and as fletch said common sense. Nothing can prevent the ID10T error.

  7. Thanks for your answer Jean,

I guess I've already solve my problem by downloading a fresh version (1.25), removing the TeaTimer resident (I do believe it was related in some way to my problem!) and installing the new version. At last I was able to update MBAM from within the program (internal updater).

Thanks again for your efforts in finding a solution to my problem.

For sure I will keep using your great product!

    All the best

TeaTimer is excellent in what it's meant to do. However, sometimes that prevents programs that alter the registry from functioning.

I apologies for not replying sooner and thanks Jean for stepping in.

    Your welcome, no worries.

  8. ran fsecure against it, found the following:

    3 viruses (downloader.win32.small, js-agent.cln, win32.fraudload.vbcm)

    18 spyware (adware.win32.onestep.a - f)

    4 riskware (fraudtool.win32.antispywaresoldier.d, fraudtool.win32.antivirusxp2008.i)

tried quarantine and clean options, and rerunning scan now.

rerunning scan found the same virus files (they were renamed, not removed). Deleted them.

Running backup now, hopefully will be done in about an hour.

If your finding malware please following the instructions here http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and start a new topic there.

  9. OK it's gone. I don't see anything malware in your log either. We can clean up some stuff. Run HJT in scan only and put a check next to the following items, then click fix.

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

Now I'm not sure what your problem was or what you thought it was. Something about scanning C:/ ?
