  1. WOT is user maintained so as far as I know the only way of seeing what is and is not a bad site is to google the site with the plug in installed and then click on the rating and read the reviews, which is what I do.

You also adjust the setting to what ever you feel is right for you, for instance I have it to block all sites that do not have a green in all WOTs categorys, so it blocks them outright. Then if I choose to I can disable that and proceed which I do for some sites that I know are fine but do not as yet have a rating.

  2. Just before when I googled I noticed that the results page changed, it used to look like this http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll225/w...operagoogle.jpg and still does in Opera and Chrome and IE, but in FF it now looks like this http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll225/w...se/ffgoogle.jpg and also on some searches I see the sponsored links on the right hand side which I never ever used to.

I had a look in about:config but I do not know where to start to look for to fix it, I did not do anything it just up and changed on me. I was in sandboxie and closing that and re opening it has done nothing.

Anyone any idea on hope to get it back? even the colour in the "sign in" at the right hand top is a different colour now, its a lighter blue so I have not a clue as to what has happened.

  3. I think I over complicated my post :) I have added sites in hostsman and in both IE and FF those sites are blocked, but not in Opera.

Everything I have googled says that it works for Opera but not in my case, I was wondering if there was something extra I have to click or tick to get it to work.

  4. I tried to reg on hostsman's forum but it would not let me, so I thought I would post here as I know a few people here use it.

With the great help of Mountaintree16 I installed it a few days ago and today I tried to add manually a few sites to it, nothing bad just some ads really. This failed, the hosts file has the sites but does not block them, so I tried with game site I use, and still the same, it does not block the page.

Have I done something wrong? I went into tools>hostsman editor>add>inserted site> add, then clicked on the site and it was not blocked

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

    Edit

Update, I scanned the hosts and it found 8 errors which I fixed (it did not show the errors) and now FF wont connect to the game site I added, is this the hosts blocking it? I thought a message came up on a blocked site? the ads however are still there.

Edit again, I cannot connect to the site in FF or IE but I can in Opera :) IE says after I check the connection through it "that site is not set up to establish a connection to a port"world wide web services (HTTP)" with this computer" so that must be the hosts file but then why is it allowing me in Opera?

That would explain why I see the ads in Opera but not IE or FF though FF has a ad blocker I do not think my IE does.

  5. Thanks Exile I will! I hate it when little things go wrong and I cannot get to the bottom of it :) so thank you for your help! Hopefully this will be clean.

One last question, SWB did not need re-protecting after the deletion like SB did so I wonder that prog does not used the hosts file, and lastly do you have the link for Hosts man ;) how difficult a prog is it to use?

  6. I mean that I was trying to look in ect/hosts but it just brought up the hosts file itself, but there now is a file called "hosts" in the ect folder and when you click on it it bring up the hosts file that it should have deleted, its called C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.old now though, should I remove that? seems strange that it is there, it was modified on the 21-02-10.

Do you think I should remove SB and get a fresh install?

  7. Thanks Exile I was looking in the ect/hosts and trying to delete from there ;), I deleted all the backups in the ect but when I look in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts I still have records of some of them there but windows cannot find them to open, the only one that does open is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.old, will this affect the re-immunization or can I safely remove that too? there are a few other files also in the ect folder will I leave those or remove them? Should I remove then re install SB? It is worrying that something has reset it.

    Thanks for you're help :)

  8. Its just strange as SB the day after the blank back up, when I went to update and immunize acted like it was its first install, I seemed to be unprotected from most if not all things and the little warning pop up about the ad robots appeared so It seems that something must have deleted the host file the day before, I have no clue to find out what happened though!

How do I remove and delete the back ups?

  9. Exile I might have to re-set the Hosts file as I decided to check when the file altered, and the one before the last back up C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.20100220-154919.backup is totally empty! But the one before that one has all the writing at that top like normal C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.20090119-190710.backup.

So for some reason I have a blank backup then the new version (which was made as you can see the day before the back that has the new version, but I am more than sure I did not try to update on that day, I update maybe once a month at most and I was not on the computer that long to do anything.), I do not have any re-direct symptoms and all seem to have the local host number 127.0.0.1 next to each entry so I am confused as to whether something dodgy happened to the file.

  10. I understand now, Great then! I just hope that when I get it it works ok, I had heard that as a browser the DSi is not that great but as long as I can read my anime and look at FB I will be happy ;)
