wireless internet connection failure due to firewall

I've downloaded Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware to my wireless laptop after a virus (now clean)and now I can't connect to the internet on the laptop even though the Netgear connection is working properly. I'm told it is a firewall issue. I've turned off the Windows firewall and it still doesn't work. I'm loathe to turn off the AVG firewall. Could the malwarebytes or super anti spyware stop the wireless connection to the internet ? It's a settings/firewall issue - any ideas please gratefully received....
