Infected with XP_Antispyware 2009 :(

Recommended Posts

I have a laptop that was infected with XP_Antispyware 2009. Ran Spybot S&D and MBAM. Both removed stuff - MWAM found and removed 22 0bjects. Now the scan comes back clear, but IE is slow to load, can't reach Windows Update site. Download buttons are missing from Firefox and Acrobat Reader site. I am not able to open user accounts in control panel - opens to a blank page; and I also can't use the Windows "search" - All I get in the left-hand navigation is the dog on a green background.

Below are my MWAM and HJThis logs. I've included the before and after MWAM logs:

OK is this http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry30361 the same machine? How many do you have infected?

I have two different machines. This one belongs to a student at the college where I work. We seem to have had a small outbreak the last couple weeks, and I'm attempting to save the machine(s) so that we don't have to reformat them.

I'll get the infected files as soon as I can.

I'm off today and someone else took over working on the computer - when I called to ask someone to upload the 2 requested files, I was told that they ran ComboFix on it and called the user for pickup .... I hope it's cured.

Thank you so much for all your help.

So your the school IT dept? Essentially a campus repair shop?

Yes, I work at the Help Desk ... found your forum while researching fixes for all these virus attacks - we've been seeing a lot of Vondo and Virtumonde ... already reformatted at least 4 computers - one came back infected again  So, I wanted to try to clean them instead .... been learning alot.

You guys are great!! :)

Yes MBAM is great and it is the leader in Vundo/Virtuomonde removal. Do you charge students for removal?

No, we don't charge at the Help Desk - it's all part of the service provided by the college. We help both students and faculty with computer needs.

Since this issue is resolved I will close the thread to prevent others from posting into it. If you need assistance please start your own topic and someone will be happy to assist you.

The fixes and advice in this thread are for this machine only. Do not apply to your machine. Please start a thread of your own and someone will be happy to help you.
