TomW Posted November 15, 2010 Author ID:345543 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Here is a current Mbam "Quick Scan" log:Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46www.malwarebytes.orgDatabase version: 5118Windows 6.1.7600Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.1638511/15/2010 3:58:03 AMmbam-log-2010-11-15 (03-58-03).txtScan type: Quick scanObjects scanned: 161840Time elapsed: 8 minute(s), 49 second(s)Memory Processes Infected: 0Memory Modules Infected: 0Registry Keys Infected: 0Registry Values Infected: 0Registry Data Items Infected: 0Folders Infected: 0Files Infected: 0Memory Processes Infected:(No malicious items detected)Memory Modules Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Keys Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Values Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Data Items Infected:(No malicious items detected)Folders Infected:(No malicious items detected)Files Infected:(No malicious items detected)Although Mbam did not re-detect the Waledac Worm on the "Quick Scan" above, the offending file ("c:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows\tmp.edb") which Mbam originally identified as the Waledac Worm, is still on the machine so it seems the machine is still infected. Maniac Posted November 15, 2010 ID:345544 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Thanks! **Note: If you need more detailed information, please visit the web page of ComboFix in BleepingComputer. **Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate. Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete. Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper. Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop. **Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop** If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows: Open Tools -> Options -> Main tab Set to Always ask me where to Save the files. [*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows: [*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after. [*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated. [*]Close any open browsers. [*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. ----------------------------------------------------------- Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results. Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask. ----------------------------------------------------------- Close any open browsers. WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished. If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection. ----------------------------------------------------------- [*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts. [*]When finished, it will produce a report for you. [*]Please post the C:\Combo-Fix.txt for further review. **Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Maniac Posted November 16, 2010 ID:346067 Share Posted November 16, 2010 It seems okay. Do you still have a problem?
TomW Posted November 16, 2010 Author ID:346085 Share Posted November 16, 2010 The only manifestation of the Waledac worm to this point is the presence of the tmp.edb file in the c:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows folder.A routine scan with MBAM identified the tmp.edb file as the Waledac.Worm and offered to remove it.I clicked "remove selected" then restarted the computer when prompted.Following reboot, I checked, and the tmp.edb file was back in the c:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows folder.I booted into safe mode to try running MBAM in safe mode but could not find the tmp.edb file in the c:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows folder.I then started this thread seeking help to remove the Waledac.Worm.Maybe the initial identification of the Waledac.Worm was a false positive and there is no virus.Your thoughts? TomW Posted November 18, 2010 Author ID:347227 Share Posted November 18, 2010 MBAM detected Waledac during the scan run on 11/12/10 as shown in the log included in my post #15 above and offered to remove the specified file on reboot. We rebooted, checked to see if the file had been deleted and found it had not been deleted. We have run MBAM several more times (quick, full, and developer mode) and it fails to file the Waledac Worm but the specified file is still on the machine. If we start the machine in safe mode, the specified file does not appear and of course MBAM cannot find the file because it is not there.Sorry to be so persistent about this but we don't want to leave the machine infected (if it is infected).Thank you. Maniac Posted November 18, 2010 ID:347407 Share Posted November 18, 2010 Your previous database version is 5097 , but the next one is 5133 . I need a new log with current database version to see if there is still a problem.Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareGo to "Update" tab and select "Check for Updates". If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Go to "Scanner" tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
