I'm infected - HiJack this and Malwarebytes Runtime error 50003

Recommended Posts

I have a Windows XP SP3 computer.

I have tried a multitude of programs to resolve a malware/virus issue on a friends computer. I have used Microsoft Security Essentials, Live One Care, MWB, Hijack This, SuperAntispyware (portable), Spybot Search and Destroy and nearly any program that I thought could help.

What I found was the computer had win32/FakePAV and win32.banker.fgv. With Banker, Spybot would find it every time the computer restarted. Now I am not getting those messages. I have deleted all of the temporary files I could.

However, now I cannot run Malwarebytes or Hijack This. I get Runtime error 50003. Also, Microsoft Security Essentials won't enable live protection. I have renamed the malwarebytes executable to omaha.com and tried running that. I have changed Hijack This to a different name and extension to no avail.

My intuition is that the computer is still infected.

How can I get Malwarebytes to run?

Thanks.
