Metajuan question from a first time poster, long time browser

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First of all I wanted to take this time to thank you for your time. After browsing through this site I've solved a lot of my problems (and tried to protect myself from future ones), although this one seems to be persisting, hence my first post. I know there are other threads about ms Juan, but my situation may be slightly different so I decided to do a new post...hopefully that's ok.

Basically my situation is that I had downloaded a program that installed virtumonde and probably ms juan. I think I got rid of virtumonde, and occassionally the ms juan gets picked up by MBAM, but sometimes doesn't. I've also used panda in the past, but I'm afraid to delete some of the dlls it has marked....I figured I'd defer to you experts.

So, I've followed your posting instructions with the exception that I couldn't use IE to run Panda, as IE doesn't load well (it did before virtumonde was installed though). And of course, on this running of MBAM, nothing was detected.

Hello,

The machine is running well, I'm just unsure if I got rid of everything completely. As I stated before at time MBAM detects MS Juan or some other trojan.vundo type thing. Also, the panda scan detected some dlls that were listed as malware...should I go ahead an delete those? Thanks again.

-Kevin

What do you mean? MBAM has a new version please update and post a log. Panda? You have done another scan? I want to see that log if it's new and please just follow my instructions.

Update MBAM do a quick scan and post the log and a new HJT log.

Hello,

Thanks for the help once again. I guess I wasn't too clear in my previous message. But basically I have not done a new scan, but I am assuming that from the previous logs I posted that my computer is clean? I haven't downloaded anything new or changed anything since the last logs I posted. I think I was just a little confused because I didn't have to do any manual cleaning of my system. But my computer runs well now. Thanks.

-Kevin

Well, the best scenario is no manual cleaning and that is what MBAM does for us. But to be sure let's get one more scan from it with the new version and a new HJT log. Then we will have some last steps to clean up and send you on your way with some ways to stay clean.

Thanks for the reply and your help. I've updated MBAM and ran a quick scan with the HJT log.

OK Kevin, some clean up but things look good.

Run HJT again in scan only and put a check next to these then click fix.

Make sure the old folder for that version of Java are deleted and the program is uninstalled too.

You need to update your Adobe also to version 8.

Windows needs updating to Service Pack 3.

After you do the Windows update System Restore points need to be reset.

Now go to Start>Help and Support > Undo Changes to Your System or System Restore depending on the make of your PC. Click on what ever will open the System Restore box. You will see two options, Choose Create a System Restore Point. Give it a name like Clean Restore Point and today's date. Now if you need to use it you have it.

Many of these infections can be avoided with an added layer of prevention. All recommended programs are free and easy on system resources. You should install them as part of your protection arsenal. Keep MBAM and Spybot Search & Destroy and always immunize SBS&D when you update. You will also need at least one other scanning program Asquared or SuperAntiSpyware are good and there are several other excellent programs with free and paid versions. Read the overviews of what each program below does so you have an understanding of their importance and how to use.

A firewall and antivirus are also essential. The Windows firewall in XP is not sufficient.

Preform Windows Updates monthly on the second Tuesday or use automatic updates, and use your scanners weekly at the least. Always update before you scan.

SpywareBlaster from Javacool Software

WinPatrol by BillPStudios

SiteHound by FireTrust

RogueRemover

hpHosts

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must. I use and recommend Online Armor Free
