spysherrif

Recommended Posts

Hi, have followwed various advice on web to remove spysherrif and all the other malware files it brought in. use smitrem, ewido, aboutbuster and panda activescan (ran them twice). Following all this many infected files have been deleted however still sure have some more on system. Prese nt problems: slow runnning 9can hear hard drive churning away most ofthe time), white desktop background (can't change it by right clikc on desktop/propreties. have even gone into registry and deleted all files in HKey.....windows/current version/polices/system and in active desktop - all these had lots of entries with No at start ie Nocomponents etc), norton antivirus wouldn't do full scan, my cyperpatrol seems to block sites it isn't asked to, today could not run Panda Activescan online - once it froze my pc giving a scary message "Stop Errror Screen, Kernel_data_inpage_error...... beginning dump of pysical memory" - what does all that mean, anyway next time ran activescan it just did nothing. Really thankful for any help

Sorry you have gone unhelped for so long...If you still need assistance post a current HijackThis log

Hi jwbirdsong

many thanks for replying, I seem to have got rid of alot of stuff, nothing come up on spybot, adaware, ewido or avg for last few days. Still feel that pc is not back to normal though. Seems a bit slower thatn it should, not too bad though but as new pc (Mar 06).

Problems still are

1. Norton Av wouldn't do full scan

2. windows firewall: due to unidentified problem windows can't show firewall setting

3. recently have had problems shutting down, click turn off and it goes back to desktop -might be to do with a lock up just before though, not sure if spyware prob related.

4. Again on shut down often get message saying need to close down ccApp

5. also sicne 19th Apr (spyware attyack on 14th) outlook does not work, would sent recieve email, again not sure if to do with spyware attack or my downloading loads of anti psyware programs. Message get when test that server was found but no response from server. Think it is pc prob becasue can get my email via outlok on my other pc in home wireless network.

any help greatly appreciated

You are running two(or more) Anti-Virus programs..while one is a MUST have...running more than one is NEVER ACCEPTABLE.

They will 'battle' for control of your system and resources; causing slowdown, errors and shut down. Choose one and uninstall the other(s).

First of all, you will need to print out this post and/or save a copy as a text file in Notepad; that way you have a hard copy of these instructions; you can not have IE/Firefox/any browser open during the fix

Please download Ewido Anti Malware, it is a free version of the program.

  1. Install ewido security suite
  2. When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck...
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu

[*] Launch ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.

[*] The program will now open to the main screen.

[*] When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

[*] You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files:

  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.

[*] The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

[*] Close Ewido

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Ewido manual updates

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan Only."

You may also optionally check ANY, ALL, NONE of the following entries for removal:

All of the following are UN-needed to run at startup. They can be ran as needed; saving system resources for better uses.

  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iSUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iSUSPM Startup] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm.exe" -startup
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyexpr.exe"

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Start Ewido Anti-Malware

  • Click on scanner. (Note: Do not start any programs or open any windows while Ewido is scanning)
  • Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK.
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check mark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
  • Click Save Report.
  • Now save the report .txt file to your desktop.
  • Close Ewido

When Ewido is finished scanning; reboot back to normal mode.

Hi

Delayed reply, been away for few days. Have posted my ewido scan and then a HiJack log below. Have alos removed the start ups you recomended

Have not yet removed norton as wanted to keep firewall part till did this scan, will now download Zonealram and will uninstall norton, plus keep AVG.

today

spybot found nothing

adaware found 3 critical files (BroadcastPc having a rating of 7!)

AVG antivirus scan had no virus in its report today, surprised because shortly after/during (can't remmeber) scan got several AVG popups saying was infected, message was:

looking in

C:\system volume infromation\restore ... lots of letters number did not take note of

Trojan horse downloader.Generic.XRU

Trojan horse PSW.Generic.VQW

Trojan horse PSW.Generic.VRG

Trojan horse PSW.Generic.VRA

Trojan horse startpage.ADB

I asked AVG to heal or if not an option to put in virus vault

Not sure how AVG missed these, also these are the names of virus that have come up before since infection, are they still there and being reinstalled or soemthing

Appreciate your help

As far as the virus goes anything is C:\system volume infromation\restore is NOT an active virus..the are backup made ny System Restore..they can NOT become active again unless you do a system restore to an earlier point..they do need to be cleared out..but that is one of the last steps we will take.....Just in case something goes wrong, an infected restore point is better than none at all.....

Java still need to be updated/older versions removed.... <---VERY important step//this older Java is the "gate way" for MANY of the Malwares we battle day in and day out..

Please run this online virus scan:(MUST use IE) ActiveScan

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send(*NOTE it's perfectly safe to do so..You will NOT be spammed from this)
    - Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If/when you get a notice that Panda wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location like your desktop.

Post Panda results and an updated HJT log please

The Panda report was just a cookie..unless you have some issues not relfected in your logs.. Congratulations, your log is clean.

First, you should clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

  • 1. Turn off System Restore.
    • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
      Click Properties.
      Click the System Restore tab.
      Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.

  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

System Restore will now be active again.

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at link in my signature

Make SURE to read and follow the advice in How Did I Get Infected in the First Place??

Everyone who answers logs/helps on this (and most other Malware help) forum are volunteers. Most forums, including this one, have a policy about who may and may not respond to logs......Forums rank/permissions are generally granted by forum owner (in this case Rubberducky). For people who would like to learn about malware removal there are several "Boot camp"/Training forums where many; most in fact, of us that do responds to these logs have been at one time or another.

There are always exceptions...some people with a good knowledge/background in Malware/computer troubleshooting can be given rank with the training..it's all up the individual forum Moderator
