Urgent! LOTS of computer problems...

Recommended Posts

(i had a mbam account but forgot what e-mail i registered it on -.-)

Hello everyone,

Well...my friends laptop is having major problems....though, i can only blame her for not getting an Anti-virus.

So, this laptop is a

After finally trying to help, i noticed that her computer took AGES to do ANYTHING. So i tried Doing a Disck scan (CHKDSK)

Restart, and comes up with the message:"press any key to cancel" we do not press anything, and it cancels itself. We try to get into any security, Then on a computer administator- it says that we do not have permission. We downloaded MBAM for it, it only finds a Rootkit agent And we try to do a removal, and it dosen't work, then re-appears itself on the next MBAM scan. We tried to download Avira Antivir, and again, it dosen't download even after a number of attempts.

I was thinking of re-formatting, and i understand that it dosen't really get rid of any viruses but this computer just seems unstable for me and basicly un-usable. Should i re-format? or should i try anything else? This is quiet urgent... i can understand waiting but i need to get help soon.

Thanks,

DP

Uh oh. :D

Well, normally I'd recommend going to the malware removal/hijack this forum, but, in this case it looks as though the laptop really just needs to be reformatted (NOT repair install) and a fresh install of whatever OS it is. Do you have the installation disks?

And I am sure that this goes without saying... an AntiVirus NEEDS to be on that computer asap once its reformatted... is there a clean machine that an AV can be downloaded from and transferred onto the newly-reformatted laptop? Did this person do online banking or anything like that while using this unprotected computer? I can recommend some great FREE AntiVirus programs to be used if you'd like :)

If interested, the directions for the malware removal/hijack this forum are below, but again, I recommend just reformatting as its been without an AV for so long and who knows how infected it really is....

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 72 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 72 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

Thank you :)
