I sent Mr Rocket here after removing Malware Defense from his system following the recommended steps.

He is still having trouble with lockups and some programs are not functioning.

Disc defragger will not run

Unable to burn CD's internal or external

System restore to a point prior to infection, fails to execute.

Can system restore be accessed in another fashion to repair registry?

I was able to back up data to a flash drive, but trying to avoid complete rebuild.
