Malwarebytes & Win 7, UAC

Recommended Posts

Question one: On Windows 7, each time the system boots up, UAC is asking if Malwarebytes (full version) can “make changes” to my hard drive. Is this normal?

It should only happen once after a scan, and then it shouldn't happen again until the next scan. There was a bug in 1.41 where it always happened every time, but the update to 1.42 should have fixed that.

Question Two: This is a brand new Windows 7 installation, and Malwarebytes has detected the following threat:

Registry Data Items Infected:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoActiveDesktopChanges (Hijack.DisplayProperties) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Is this of any concern?

That's a default setting in Windows 7 and Vista. It is detected because malware will change it to be like that, so MBAM always wants to change it to the Windows XP default setting. You may add it to your ignore list if you want.
