Vundo and Virtumonde that just won't go away

OK, I have seen this problem occasionaly before, please try typing

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /Uninstall

into the run box

if that fails then try

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /u

Please let me know if you have any more problems with this.

Regarding the firewall there are sevaral free ones so please try them and see what works best with AVG. If you try Zonelaram make sure that you do not select the Ask toolbar when you install it.

Even when pasting this: "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /Uninstall

also tried "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /u

in the run field, I still get that same error!

Doing a little digging on the Online-Armor and AVG websites, it seems like a lot of people have conflicts between these programs. I'd switch the AV software to something different for the lady whose computer I'm helping out with, but she's not great with computers and is comfortable with AVG and doesn't want to change it. Thanks for the advice on ZoneAlarm! I'll do some investigating into other firewalls.

You've been so patient, I'm sorry for the endless problems!

OK we'll get it to work one way or another.

In the run box type cmd that will open a black command prompt windows

type C: and return to make sure we are on C: drive

type cd \ and return to make sure we are at the root of the drive

type cd "documents and settings" and return

type cd NAME and return where NAME is the username you are logged in as (from your logs I guess this will be Owner)

type cd desktop and return

Now the prompt should read C:\Documents and settings\NAME\Desktop

Once you are in this folder then you should be able to type Combofix /uninstall into the comand window.

If not let me know and we'll try another way. (please confirm that the Combofix icon is still on your desktop)

I get this message:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop>Combofix /uninstall

'Combofix' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Hi Wainwright,

Did you manage to get OTC to run? If so then that will have removed Combofix and that is fine. If the Combofix icon has gone from the desktop then it is OK to continue.
